Crush Washer problems
 

I have a 2007 impreza 2.5i, every time I change the oil I use a new crush washer and every time it leaks! I dont understand why this keeps happening. I use the OEM washer and torque it to proper spec, yet still a leak, any ideas?

I'd skip the tourqe spec and go with the german metric system "Goodentite"..as a pipefitter I always tighten things till I can't turn them with the wrench that is called for. So if you using a 17mm wrench tighetn it till you can't turn it with said wrench. There are exceptions to this rule of course.

Only problem with that is risk of stripping the threads

I dont believe so, its always looked completely normal. Last time it was leaking at the top corner area of the drain plug, I just re-did it a week ago and it is now leaking out of the bottom area of the drain plug, all referring to the crush washer of course

Been keeping my eye on the washer, so far no leak now and ive been driving it all day. This is the 4th less than 1000 mile oil change ive done due to leaking washers so pulling the bolt again isn't ideal. Last 3 washers were brass, this current one is the aluminum OEM washer. Thinking im just going to patch it temporarily with black rtv sealer and then come next oil change I'll clean it up and use a copper washer. Also thinking I may have a thread probelm....hurray.

I may even end up getting rid of the car before next oil change. Have my eyes on a brand new 6-speed legacy
