(Suggestions for) the QUIETEST turboback combo?
well, i have crucial racing tbe and its pretty loud...got a fix it ticket on turk and jones (tenderloin in sf) of all places. and it gets annoying on freeways cruising at 3k rpm.
i like my catted downpipe so i'm looking for a trade or buying a different catback. changing just the catback will be alright or would it be the whole turbo back set up. i havnt heard too many turbobacks on subies, i would guess borla hush is one of the quiet ones but is there one without dualtips? i think xr1? input will be helpful, thanks. |
my friend has this turboback from Hitech mufflers, he would sell it i bet..
quietest 3" i have ever heard... i mean it's quieter than a hush.. it makes the hush look like a Blitz nur spec r... with a catless dp.. it as a cat in the cbe tho.. |
I too would be interested in some recommendations for a quiet or semi-quiet tbe, if anyone has any thoughts.
|
I have the borla hush with a catted downpipe. It's quiet and does not get unwanted attention because it does not look flashy or anything. Yet it still has a nice deep growl to it and sounds pretty nice when you get on it.

quiet tbe
K'SAI all the way!
u could always try the fujitsubo catbacks (us spec). they're pretty quiet and they are angled like N1 exhausts. Or an Apexi WS sport catback. Or the Greddy SP2. I have the jdm hks hi power silent version mated to the jdm hks catted dp and it's as quiet as the borla hush. It looks like a regular hi power but is all stainless steel. |
The Greddy Evo 2 is a single tip and it is relatively quite.

The Greddy Evo 2 and Borla Hush are two of the quietest I have heard. The K'sai catted turboback is also about the same.
You could just weld in a resonator into your current system that should bring the sound down a fair amount. Mike |
Another aspect to think about is the appearance of the exhaust tip(s). Even though I usually hear a modified Subaru flat four before I see it, I think that one of the first things that law enforcement notices when they pull up behind an import car is the exhaust tip configuration. A big 4" stainless/titanium exhaust tip is the first thing I notice on any import car when I drive up behind one.
Obviously, a big straight-through catback is about as close as you're gonna get to zero flow restriction and still run a muffler, but it also gets you added (and sometimes unwanted) attention. |

come on jin you know you like my hush haha, i sometimes wish it were louder
|
i'm running with silencer for now, not because i dont want tickets but just because the ride is sooooo much better without a blistering loudness coming from the car, though it sounds like my car is farting, i can actually push my car a little bit without having to worry about cops being around the block.

The TurboXS turboback with high flow cat and standard TurboXS muffler is fairly quiet, Ive had it for 4 years now and havent had any trouble with the law. It looks nice too - it tucks up nicely under the bumper:

I always liked the sound of Greddy Evo two catback. The construction is great quality it just isn't that loud. I'd go with that but the best of luck with whatever you end up with. |
