looking for that rumble again

I am currently running a gruppe s header on my 05 sti and I am happy with it so far but,I have lost some of that boxer rumble we have all come to love. The new exhaust note is a little more raspy with a little rumble to it,it actually sounds kind of unique for an sti.

But I would like to get that deep boxer rumble back is there an aftermarket unequal length header that anyone has run that retains that rumble? The rest of the system consists of a catted titek downpipe and a Borla hush tb any input from you guys would be sweet. Thanks

i have a gruppe-s header also, i plan on installing pretty soon, but i'm cat-less with a greddy sp2. i wonder if i'll lose some rumble as well, which would suck...i guess i'll find out here pretty soon.

Does cat-less make a big deal on how loud your car is or your exhaust note?

Since I'm not a vendor on here I wont tell you to get the Crucial Racing ones specifically, BUT.... try P&P&C OEM manifold elbows. The thick cast iron prevents that resonating metallic noise that you get with basically ANY aftermarket header made of thinner steel piping, whether it's unequal or equal length. It's just that thin metal that adds a lot of that tone. The thick cast iron keeps a clean, deep tone AND a properly ported OEM manifold will make every bit as much power as most aftermarket steel headers (plus they're COMPLETELY reliable, fit perfectly, look totally OEM because you can put the stock heat shields on top, and cost less).

...and yes, catted vs. highflow cat DOES make a very big difference in exhaust volume and even tone. That cat acts very effectively as a resonator and usually kills a lot of metallic noises as well...

I was reading that yesterday online and they even give you a core charge if you send your elbows back to them,I started this thread to find out about other aftermarket choices before I get those ported elbows from Crucial Racing,is that what your running?

I have had the unequal length headers in two of my cars now. I don't know what the other OP is talking about but you will retain your boxer rumble. On the 2.5l, you will gain more performance through out the entire powerband. On the 2.0l, you will lose some low end torque but you will increase top end power.
