idle issue.

I'm having fluctuating idle issues. I have no idea what is causing it. Car runs fine.but when the fan turns on. The idle starts jumping. My idle is set to 1000. Then jumps to 1200-1000. For a bit. Then stops. Anyone have a clue to why? Thanks.

Notice this recently? Do you have the A/C on?

Jimboi 08-06-2012 04:30 AM

No cel. Doesn't matter if AC is on. Still does it. I wanna say its the fuel pump or injectors but I'm not sure. :/

Check your alternator... My car did this and it was the alternator

Jimboi 08-06-2012 08:21 AM

What do I check for?

SkizzDawg 08-06-2012 08:28 AM

Take it to Pep boys, Auto Zone, Kragens and ask them to do a battery/alternator test. They will test it on the spot and tell you if either is bad.

fasho. I'll see what they say

Does anyone know where the IACV is located on a 05 sti? and how to remove one? thanks

Jimboi 08-07-2012 04:31 AM

Anyone know?

It's located right above the throttle body. If it's like the 02 WRX's then it should be held in by two brass screws.....careful they strip easy, also best to remove it cold since coolant does run threw it and there will be some when you remove it. I am also having idle issue since i replaced my alternator with a used one......been jumping threw a lot of hoops to figure out what is wrong, but mine is idling to low not to high. The idle as far as i know should jump slightly when under a load....AC/fans/lights...you can adjust how much it idles under a load....Check IACV, MAF sensor, Battery, and Alternator. Also check all your grounds to be safe. Have you done anything recently to the car? If it was a problem with your fuel pump or injectors i would assume you would notice something while driving? If it is only when you are at idle and only when the fans turn on it is more than likely an electrical issue....which can be annoying to figure out exactly what is wrong.....still trying to solve my issue. GL with your hope it's something easy to fix!

I think its different on the 05 Sti. I don't see it on top of the throttle body or near it. Maybe its behind the intercooler. Idk. I have to take it off to really look at it.
