Excellent STi oil filter comparison

I found this STi oil filter write-up on a site put together by WolfPlayer over on iws. He really did his homework on the various filter choices for the STi.

This link: http://www.bescaredracing.com/sti/oil/filters/ has an Excel file that sums up all of his findings. The other directories contain pics of the filters, including cut shots.

I think he was gonna get the newer oem filter (100 vs. 080) to see how similar it is.

Egan Feb 8, 2005 08:57 AM

Ya, he's got a few more to add to the list when he gets around to it.

WolfPlayer Feb 8, 2005 09:44 AM

Yea, I have the newer '100' filter as well as a few oversized filters like the Amsoil, etc. I just need to get motivated to finish things up. I've been so focused on other things so hopefully I can get around to it soon.

I've covered the WIX filter over on NASIOC already.

Thats a good write up but I think he left out few important things about the filters. like the micron rating of the filter media, the resistance to flow, or what the anti drain back valve is made of, seems most are made of either Silicone or Nitrile, or other features like Spiral-wound Center Tube.
I just think things like that are what makes a filter better than the other.

I personally use Napa golds witch are reboxed wix like he said in the write up.

Thank you Wolf Player...very nice comparison. While I wish you would've done a quick check of the filter area of the Pure One PL14610 (the longer one), I think I'm going with that one anyway, being that if it didn't exist, I'd go with the PL14612 anyway. I've been hearing great things for years on the Pure One filters. I used to use them on my Buick Grand National (with a filter adaptor to allow for a larger filter over stock), until Pure One discontinued the usable part. Anyway, thanks again!

And yes, other comparisons agreed that the Fram filters were far and away the worst filter on the market. Boooo....

how about the Bosche oil filter, looks almost the same as OEM.

STi489 Aug 23, 2006 11:07 PM

i had tried the pure one or mobil 1 i forget but the stock filter has bigger holes and just looks beefier inside

WRX409 Aug 24, 2006 12:24 AM

I use a Mobil 1 oil filter every oil change and it really seems
to filter very well.

links arent working too good, what was the end result? over on nasioc everyone just purchases the purolaters from amazon.com because they were the original OEM subaru filters

STi filter beat out all the other filters - however I also hear that purolator makes the oem filter also.

I just buy the six packs from subarugenuineparts.com
