Cruise control Shuts Off?

2004 STi

Went for a drive and set the cruise control at 70mph. Twenty minutes into the drive the cruise control shuts off. The set light disappears but the cruise stays on. No it wasn't a check engine light or a misfire. Reset the cruise back to 70mph and it did it again ten miles later. Took the exit ramp and got back on going back the way I was coming from. Set the cruise back on and it didn't do it. Any suggestions?

Might check it with a code reader? I was doing this for a while, and the CEL didn't come on, but I checked and there was a pending o2 sensor code. I think it was just on the borderline to not throw a CEL.

how high or low were you're rpms when it shut off? If you are going up a steep hill with low rpms (especially with bad gas) then it will shut off if there is the remotest possibility of stalling and/or lugging the motor

look under the dash. Locate the clutch petal. On the petal there is a plastic tab that pushes on a "push-in" type switch. Make sure the plastic tab on the clutch petal arm is in good shape and it is all adjusted properly. It could be worn down.
