CAI's on STi's, good or bad idea???
What is up everyone, a noobie here to i-club. I just have a quick question. I was wondering if it is a good idea or a bad idea to purchase a cold air intake for my STi? I have heard mixed comments about them. Some people said that it will make the car run lean. Could you guys please help me out.
Thanks

any of the aftermarket intakes will make your car run lean. That is how they make there power. As for a true cold air intake, you don't really need one because you have an intercooler. The only time a cai would make anydifference is at freeway speed and then it wouldn't be much. If you really want an aftermarket intake I would suggest a short ram. Just as much air as a cai but less money. If you don't plan on doing mods just get a k&N replacement filter for the stock box. Happy motoring

I have the Injen double throw down red crinkle painted CAI on my '05 STi.
It does not run lean with either the stock ecu, or any of the ecu maps that I also use.
Had the car dyno'd a week ago in ~100F temps and no lean spots in the graph.

Its a 50/50 thing. 50% of people/tuners swear by them, others hate them. I personally prefer non-cold air (not inside the fender) intakes with a shroud around them.
