This ever happen to any of you??
Have you ever heard of this happening. I was driving to work and all of a sudden merging onto the highway.... smoke screen...... blue smoke everywhere under the hood, I pull into my friends shop and leave the car there. He found the problem. theres a rubber hose up close to the turbo, i havent seen it yet so I can only say what my friend says. This hose is an oil line that he says popped off and it has no clamp or fastener on it, is this normal to happen?? Should there have been a clamp on there>? It only pours out oil under boost so it's obviosly a turbo feed/return line. Anyone hear of this happening, I thought I really blew something up, thank god it's nothing serious, I have a lot of cleaning to do though
Anyone experience this before?
I think Im going to clamp the line

I know of two WRXs (non-STI) here in town this has happened to. It is very dangerous!
One of the two it happened to took his car to the dealer to have the turbo replaced under warranty. They replaced the turbo without a problem, but the shop mechanic FORGOT TO CONNECT THE OIL LINE and he fried the second turbo about 3 miles away from the dealership.

somethign smoking from turbo area
today i drove home from school, but when i left the parking lot, i smelled some burning, i thought it was the other guys peeling out. but when i pulled in my driveway and wanted to check my tires to see how much thread is showing, i smelled buring again, and i next saw smoke coming out of my hood. i turned off my car, popped open the hood and i saw smoke coming from where the downpipe and turbo meet. in my mind, i was like wtf, so after all the smoke had gone away, i took it for a spin around the corner driving kind of hard but when i got back home, there was no smoke, no smell btw the clanmps that clamp the oil line to the turbo is still on. so what just happened there?
i also just changed my oil in the morning

Read this bro, you cant see where the return comes off the turbo cause its underneath. Take your car for a ride, drive hard into the booost then park your car and open the hood is it smoking worse??
This is at least a 3-4 hour repair for someone with experience, they've been known to pop off. You have to take the header uppipe down pipe and exhaust housing off to get to the line.

I've taken the liberty of merging the two threads on this subject and making it a 'sticky' for the benefit of all STi owners. This is a potentially dangerous condition that can lead to an underhood fire.
