04 STi, water, white smoke the works :(
 

Hey Everyone I'm hoping you all can help me with some sound advice. I have a 04STi out in queens. We had a really bad storm today and when I went to the car the front seats were soaked and I had huge puddles of water in the driver and passenger side. I had water in the engine bay. When I tried to start her up she cranked really hard and turned off everytime. When I gave her gas it did not do anything and just turned off. At first the exhaust was spitting out alot of water and then thick white smoke. Threads are saying blown turbo, rod failure, headgaskets, but the car was running great before the storm. As of right now she barely moves and I really don't know what to do. Any help/friendly advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Did it flood during the storm? sounds like it..

theoutbackdream- They stated flash floods but I did not think it became so severe that it would literally destroy my car. I left work and was given a horrible surprise.

hmmm.... but if water was in exhaust and inside cabin, it would sound like there was a flood. do all your guages work?

Yes the gauges work. The RPM's do not go above 1 and the speedometer is going nuts. The rest of them seem to work fine (fuel, temperature) I saw other cars fairly close to me but I was 3 car lengths isolated from the front and 1 car length isolated from the rear.

im thinking ECU got water logged since in your OP, you mentioned the pass/driver side having puddles. hopefully someone else can help you.

theoutbackdream- That's what all the signs are pointing to. Would you know where specifically the ECU is located and if tools are needed to get it out? Thanks

should be in passenger footwell underneath the carpet and floorboard.

the tools needed, im not sure of. sorry

A socket wrench and some sockets i believe are what is needed to pull the ECU out.

Update: cleaned out 85% of the water from the floorboards. Car started up strong had a rough idle. Once it got a bit warm it spewed thick white smoke. Turned it off immediately. Car is throwing 4 codes P2138, P2101, P0607, P0000. Have not moved the car at all. Check the oil looked to have no water. Checked antifreeze did not see oil there. Did not check trans and rear end yet and did not dig out computer yet.

a head gasket might seem like anothr option.

You're probably going to need to replace all of your electronic items that are essential for the car to run that aren't airtight to begin with.

-ECU
-Mass Airflow Sensor
-O2 Sensors
-Etc

But in reality get it towed to a reputable subaru shop and call it a day, pay the money to get it diagnosed it's probably an endless find by yourself if it was submerged.

Heeds- Thanks for making that list. I'm thinking more sensors. I will see about a good local Subaru dealer in the area.

dont take it to a stealership its gonna cost way less at a subaru shop
