weird noise
not sure in which forum to post this so i thought i'd try here first
2002 WRX sedan
just recently i noticed a winding noise coming from the front of the car at speed...it seems maybe front right
it's not related to RPM but speed...the faster i go, the more it whines or winds up
any ideas?
the car isn't pulling at all so i don't think it's brakes or a wheel bearing...i thought it could be tire wear and noise but the tire appears ok
i am totally stumped but looking for opinions before i take it in

Is it as you go faster or when sustain high accelleration? I know dumb assumption, but maybe you're just hearing the turbo spool up
That's the first thing I thought when I read you post.

The brake sensor has always sounded to me more like a scraping, if that helps.
FWIW - I had some cheapy pads put on another car of mine a while back and both sets had sensors which BROKE OFF PREMATURELY and basically got stuck in the break mechanism. Thank God they didn't hamper the caliper performance, but they did exactly what you are saying, scraping all the time. Once in a while it would suddenly stop, but only to come back in full force no matter what I was doing.
I had confirmed this by simply taking off the wheel, pulling up the caliper and watching the broken sensor fall out and clink on the ground.
