I just got my '04 WRX, and my gas mileage also sucks, and I've been using 93 octane (I can get 94 as well, but why pay .10 more for one octane point?). Only got 750 miles on it. I expect it to improve once it breaks in. Actually, it might get worse since I will begin to "play" with it :D

ScoobyBoy 12-30-2003 05:54 AM

itll get worse once you start to get on it, but then you start to realize gas is starting to get farking expensive and to drive slower. maybe thats why people think i drive slow?
 :D

btw congrats on the new scooby!

winter gas is oxygenated, which lowers its energy content. as a result you get fewer miles per gallon overall.

i've noticed a drop of about 10%. it's the only variable in my driving.

Does anyone else log their fuel consumption? I don't think it serves much use, but could be useful down the road if you start consistently getting ****ty mileage. I log mine in excel every time I refill, 30 seconds every week isn't much of a hassel. I have averaged 20.63 MPG over the last year, 40% HWY 60% City.

ScoobyBoy 12-30-2003 11:14 AM

i used to have a log of gas mileage, until my harddrive fried on me. now i just write down my mileage on my gas reciepts.
:D

DarkAngel 12-30-2003 04:33 PM

try 16 or 17mpg. thats mostly city driving (95%) and short trips

gordy 12-30-2003 09:14 PM

I've been measuring my miles per tank for about 2 years with the trip meter.. every fill up I reset it. Up until a few months ago I've been consistently averaging 280 a tank. Thats a combination of fwy/city mild racing and the occasional 4k launch.

A few months ago I finally ditched the stock wheels and got some 18x8.5 volks with fm901's (235), brembo brakes (front and rear) and tein flex coilovers. Since then my mileage has taken a dump.. I've been averaging 230-250 and if I race the entire tank away, a pathetic 180-200.

I also have a GFB BOV that I've had for about a year. I didn't notice any mileage diff from that.. I think the big dip is from my wheels being heavier (abour 2lbs per wheel heavier than the stockers)

OldGuy 12-31-2003 05:06 AM

It's not likely that two pounds per wheel did it. You might see some difference from the extra frontal profile of the tires.

However, talking about miles per tank is not a very accurate measure for several reasons. Divide the miles on the trip odometer by the gallons at your fill up and you will have a pretty good figure.

best i ever got on a tank of gas was like 420 ish all highway driving going from VA to CA. best mpg was 34mgp in AZ crusin @89mph(cruise control max speed). how ever with normal driving i get like 20mpg all depends on driving style this is with lots of stops very little highway driving bout 250 per tank.
