questions: up-pipe, down-pipe and stock cat?

I have a few questions, thanks in advance for your replies:

1. Which (in your opinion) is the best up-pipe in terms of fitting and longevity?

2. What issues come up when installing up-pipe in place of stock cat?

3. I have a stock exhaust, except for Prodrive axle-back; can I install an aftermarket downpipe, while keeping the rest of my current exhaust or do I have to go to a turbo-back?

4. IF I install the up and downpipe, is the stock ECU compatible with these improvements, or do I have to have it custom tuned to the exhaust mods?

Again, thanks for your thoughts.

Jim

1. uppipes do the same thing. a flex may not leak as easily
2. none...quicker spool.
3. yes you can. you can mate the dp to the catback and bam turbo back
4. the stock ecu is good enough. you can reflash to get more power out of the pipes.

4. the stock ecu won't implode with these mods, but you likely won't get all the power out of them. Then again, I'm a UTEC snob, and I love retuning, so take my advice for what it's worth...

1)best uppipe would just be a flex one to avoid leakage in the future.
2)the only issue known is when u go to get smogged, you wont pass when cold, so make sure the car is warmed
3)not sure
4)the ecu will work. just reset it and drive. a reflash is recommened for optimum gains tho.

2) You will need to do the resistor mod, or you will eventually get a CEL

Yes Jim, mods are good!!! Let's take the blue meanie for a spin soon.:D

1. flex uppipe
2. cel but a simple resistor would fix that
3. i have a helix downpipe with stock exhaust and it leaks alil might be my gasket
4. factory ecu would be able to adjust to the changes

while your at it might as well replace the midpipe also so it wouldnt be a restricting.

the midpipe may have a cat but its not very restrictive at all. but its up to you to replace it.
