Exhaust Question: STi exhaust or Prodrive?

I am looking into getting a my04 WRX and wanted to get an exhaust for it. Im not looking for a crazy 3 inch turboback, just a nicer sounding muffler. I know the usdm STI muffler is quite pricey but i wanted to know how it would sound to just have that muffler on a stock rex. would it resemble the sounds of the STi or would it basically not change? i was also thinking about the Prodrive muffler, i have heard good things about it and i was wondering how it sounded as well. Compared to one another, which is louder, or "better sounding" i love the rattle of the boxer engine from hearing STi's and i was wondering if either of those pieces would help to create that low rumble. any responses welcome, thank you all!

as far as sound goes, do you want a louder one or a quieter one? with the sti muffler your not gonna get the same sound as a sti but it will be a little louder than stock, im not too sure about the prodirve exhaust. What i would recommand would be the hks hi-power catback

I would have to say for you to get the Prodrive over the STi. For one the Prodrive will sound a little bit louder but you wont even hear it drone inside the car. and it looks better IMO Good Luck either way

Here is a post that has a comparison of the prodrive and stock axel back http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=628963. Looks like the Prodrive meets your criteria.

My new favorite is the APS 3" piece, but this is only available (AFAIK) as a turboback. A friend has one, and it sounds as quiet as stock when you are idling or just putting around under 2.6k, but when you go WOT it screams like something recently unleashed from hell. I'm certain a Civic owner wets their pants every time he fires that thing up.

I have had both pipes on my car, Prodrive is definitely louder. Sti is only slightly louder than stock but deeper tone, should sound like an Sti if that's what you're after, rest of the exhaust is pretty much the same. Power by buttdyno is about the same for both pipes. IMO a used Sti pipe for $200 is pretty hard to beat.

Prodrive muffle is definitley more aggressive sounding than STi, but still subtle. None of the big mufller/tailpipe blues. I have had the prodrive for over a year......no drone, my neighbors don't hate it, yet it sounds throaty and has a good rumble from idle on up. Not much (if any) performance change....but sounds like the car should have stock. And it looks subtle too....not flashy and offensive.
