ej22t w/ 02 wrx heads?
ok, i schemeing here and i think ive found a way to have my cake and eat it too. i know, and i'm sure you know also, that the ej22t from the old USDM turbo legacys are crazy strong (i heard 400whp on stock internals) but the heads flow like crap. I have a 2.5RS with an 02 USDM WRX swap and i want more but i want it on pump gas and i want it reliably and if i can somewhat cheaply (as we know nothing in this hobby is cheap). Can I swap my WRX heads onto an ej22t block and make an evo eater or is this just a pipe dream. also what type of engine management would you recomend? can a UTEC do this or should i go better?
does anyone have an ej22t block there willing to part with?

Yeah that will work fine. You can use a UTEC or even an ecutek reflash. Blackdog has this setup, but he has a built ej22 with stronger internals. I know he was running the td04 with a conservative Vishnu ecutek reflash with no problems. PM him for more info...I know he doesn't post on here too often.
I think mike from gruppe-s was selling a stroked ej22 if you want a really nice motor.

As noted it will definitely work. You cannot use the 2.0 liter head gasket though. The ej22t head gasket will give you lower compression (it's been noted to be about 7.5-ish:1). I used the factory EJ25 metal head gasket, which is what was given to me by Crawford performance. UTEC works for me.

hey guys i was thinking about running WRX heads on a ej22t block also, and was hoping some you could shed some light on what is needed(gaskets, oilpump???.... you guys get the point).
I thought i read somplace that the ej205 gaskets should be used, but i could be wrong.

You will need the oil pump from the ej22t (part# 15010AA108), apparently it flows more oil. You will need the 2.2 oil pan as well. Are you going to use the ej22t crank, rods, etc or are you going to with aftermarket?

from what im hearing the ej22 bottom end is strong as an OX out of the box. If im right the cranks rods and pistons are all way stronger than the 207 and don't need much unless your going over 400hp. yeah/neh?

The 205 though is another story. The only real weak point really is the pistons. Both have a forged crank. I am not sure if the 2.2 pistons are made of the same material as the 2.0. I am assuming not if is that much more durable. The 2.2 has pistons squirters too, so that's gotta help. I've heard someone discredit the squirters but I can't see how it can hurt any.
From what I've read from the experiences of others, you can squeeze a lot out of the stock parts on the 2.2t.

I’ve been doing some research and have heard that the coolant ducts might not line up. Can anyone confirm or reject this rumor?
What I was thinking about doing was getting some pistons (the only no forges piece on the block) because I’m aiming for a 9:1CR. I have been spit balling the idea of getting a phase 1 STi crank and maybe some rods and have it stroked to 2.35L. This would cost a hell of a lot more and I still have the weak WRX tranny so I don’t want to go to crazy.
