Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Does this gasket look like it may have been the cause of my P0442? (PIC)

Does this gasket look like it may have been the cause of my P0442? (PIC)

I've been experiencing intermittent P0442 (evap system small leak). It has been coming on every 200 miles or so. It started after I installed a Walboro fuel pump, and I've heard of many other people messing up their gaskets during this install.

I've never actually SEEN what one of the faulty gaskets look like, so I was wondering if you guys could tell me if my gasket looks like it may have been causing the problem.

This is the underside of the gasket, obviously, as you can't see the 3 nipples.

If the white residue is gasoline (which I think it is) and not paint (my car is white) then it seems to me like I may have been leaking from the bolt holes. Does this sound plausible?

Does anyone have a picture of a faulty gasket that I could compare with mine?

I replaced the gasket with a new factory part, but I don't drive very frequently so it might be a few weeks before I'll know if I'm really in the clear.

Yes that can be the cause, and that gasket looks like none of the holes lined up properly.

Upon closer inspection it looks like the studs must have been fully outside of the holes, as this would explain why the outer edge of the gasket got munched and the thing is so poorly aligned. It's very odd that the gasket could be so far from correctly installed while all 3 of the nipples were still fully sticking through the metal plate.
