Disturbing new noise
 

I just got my clutch changed and what a difference that makes. Problem is now there is a new noise comming from the engine compatment. The best way i could describe it is the sound of a dremel rotoary tool comming from the engine compartment. Its like a very fast whirring, different then the normal turbo spool. It only happens when I'm on boost, goes away when the blow off valve goes off. So i'm pretty sure its turbo related, checked for air leaks and didn't find anything glaring. Still get 15-16ish PSI of boost, car drives like it has the same power.

What do you think this could be?? is it bad. or just a new noise to get used to? I can't figure out what the turbo has to do with changing a clutch.

This same problem popped up on my car ('02 WRX Sedan, stock with 60k miles) about a week ago... I have no idea what it is... but sounds exactly the same as you described...

Okay, I pulled off the intercooler, can't see any metal shavings in the oil at tip of intercooler. Pulled off downpipe, can't really see any signifigant amount of play in the turbo shaft. I'm running out of ideas to check if this is a blown turbo problem, or something totally different.
