Can I version 9 swap with usdm ecu?

From what I gather, everything will hook up, just no AVCS. What I'm wondering is can I just use my 02wrx ecu and get a tune until I can get a v7 or v8 ecu? Then rewire for AVCS?

Thanks

Most of it will hook up.

You need a V9 ECU, V7 and V8 won't do. And there are a lot of other parts you need too. All in all you're gonna spend about $1,500-2,000 on parts needed for AVCS.

Wait, why? Every thread I found in it said it's plug and go with a v8 ecu. Just need to tune for our gas.

fehnix Jul 6, 2013 03:22 AM

What's the $1500+ in parts?

fehnix Jul 6, 2013 12:46 PM

Can anyone confirm this?

How, pray tell, are you going to plug and play a V8/9 ECU (I stand corrected, I assumed the JDM V9 also had dual AVCS) with a DBC throttle body?

Intake manifold
DBW throttle body
Pedal Assembly
AVCS solenoids and wiring harness
ECU
New engine management (unless your tuner can/does OS tune the new ECU)

Whoever wrote whatever you read is retarded.

have an 02 wrx. iirc its dbc

you drive an 02 and you dont even know its dbc?!?

fehnix Jul 6, 2013 02:31 PM

in fact, iirc all the 2.0l 02-04 are dbc. it wasnt until 04+ did the 2.5l go dbw

idk if you are trying to troll me or what..

edit, ok I think we are misunderstanding each other.. Im talking about a jdm v9 swap. Not usdm v9 swap.

motec007 Jul 6, 2013 09:59 PM

Plug and play just get the avcs wiring kit and the ecu to match your motor and a tune! Just did a jdm ej207 few weeks ago

LOL_VTEC Jul 6, 2013 10:34 PM

I ran a Jdm ecu with my v7 swap. You can't hook up the AVCS with the usdm 2.0 ecu. And it's a must!! I highly recommend you pick up a v7 or 8 with matching ecu

There are no misunderstandings on my part in this thread. Nobody said anything about a USDM swap.

On a V7 motor yes, not on latter ones.

Fehnix; you didn't sense Brfatal's sarcasm

When he said, "How, pray tell, are you going to plug and play a V8/9 ECU (I stand corrected, I assumed the JDM V9 also had dual AVCS) with a DBC throttle body?"

What he actually means is how are you going to plug and play a v8/9 ecu with your 02 wrx which has drive by cable.

On that note
jdm sti motors v7, v8 , v9 are drive by cable

v9 ecu has immobilizer (many are dual avcs; correct code GD-G)

GDA-F is the term for the GD chassis (were still single avcs)

Factory revisions A and B, amounting from 02/01/2000 to 10/31/2002, are called V7
Factory revisions C and D, amounting from 09/01/'02 to 05/31/'04, are called V8
Factory revisions E, F, G amounting from 03/01/'04 to 04/30/'07, are called V9

GRB bodystyle EJ207 are called V10.

So you will need the v9 ecu (with immobilizer etc if you want to utilize what the pros of having the v9 motor)
So get a v8 sti motor swap =]
wiring should be straight forward, then get the IA performance avcs wires or make your own and add it into the wiring!

Dual AVCS is only worth it if w/e you are getting is coming with it and isn't canbus wiring

Brfatal Jul 7, 2013 01:27 PM

Hmm, I swear the few later EJ207 swaps I've seen had DBW throttle bodies on them.

[edit] Pictures on Google say you're right. My apologies on that count.
