Good first mods to Subi??help!

Ive been looking around lately for any ideas for some first mods to my wrx, looking for some quick horsepower and good sound. Just something to start off with. Ive read about the catback exausts and cia's, so far and thats what im seeing that everyone is happy with and doesnt cost to much. and thats what i am leaning to right now. i just dont know which, if any of those would be good. Any ideas and help from anyone...would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

Don't go CAI. A catback is a good first mod and also doesn't require EM.

I'd pick up an Engine Management as a first mod.

If you can't afford that I'd go uppipie and/or downpipe. Then get a custom piping for the exhaust.
I'd definately recommend Engine Management after getting these mods.

I have an Injen CAI cuz i'm a ricer. :dizzy:

I see. So so far im going with a catback exaust. then a dp, and ill definitely be getting the Engine Management in the future. Ive been looking at Cobb exausts any good feedback on those??

You should get an up-pipe at the same time as the down-pipe. It'll help the turbo spool up faster and it'll get rid of the pre-turbo cat that can fall apart and damage your turbo later on in your cars life.

Cobb makes great stuff. I had a Cobb exhaust on my old RS. It had a great sound and fit perfectly. If you get an exhaust you may also want to get stiffer hangers. Mine would shake all over the place until I got some Kartboy hangers.

Im getting a cobb exhaust, looking through all of them right now. Then later on im gonna add the up's and dp's. I didnt know about the deal with the hangers though. I guess im gonna have to look into that.

If uppipe and downpipe are out of your price range, you might consider used sway bars and/or rear subframe lock bolts. Might not get you that sound you would like to hear, but makes the car more fun to drive.

I havent looked into those yet. I was thinking about the sway bars and all after the uppipe and downpipe. Looking for a little horsepower add right now, then im going to take care of handling and all. Im looking at Cobb exhausts right now, trying to find some a little cheaper than 675, it seems they all cost that much?

PikkaGTR Oct 16, 2007 12:01 PM

you can pick up a decent exhaust like greddy or invidia in the same price range
imo looks and sounds a little better
but first things first go EM
an APv2 can get ur car the same power or even more than an untune CB or even TBE and is much safer
cost aprrox the same as well

Monyg85 Oct 16, 2007 04:46 PM

Yea, ive been looking to EM's and all like a APv2....its just that I dont know enough about all that, Im afraid id only end up messing something up. I figure by the time I understand all of that ill be in good shape to buy it, you know?

you should look into a rear sway bar also

it made the biggest improvemnt on my car

theo79 Oct 19, 2007 08:39 PM

if you go to vividracing.com they sell the greddy ti-c for like 476 ish

you could always buy a used exhaust.

Monyg85 Oct 19, 2007 09:32 PM

Oh ok i see. Yea ive been looking into rear sway bars. Ive read that they make a pretty big difference in driving and handling. I think that will be a next mod after my exhaust.

i would agree with these guys, go with exhaust first. at least a good catback (full turboback is better :D ) and up pipe. then accessport. you can get premade maps specifically designed for your car with no real tuning involved. you can however get it tuned later if you desire. whatever you do, dont get a friggin bov.... the stocker is more than capable and changing it will only make your car run like ****. also the stock intake is pretty well designed and until you get deeper in your mods an intake wont really give you more power (although it will sound cool) and some brands can actually make your car run lean without a tune. hope this helps.
