California emissions question
Hi guys! I've got to get my 03 wrx slogged soon. I'm running the California stage 1 map. Does anyone know if it will pass smog or do I need to refresh to stock.
Thanks, Ben |
if you arent catless it should pass. why not flash it really quick just to be sure?
you can always get a pre-test or something theyll tell u if youll pass or not |
Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure if it needed to cycle a certain amount of miles between reflashes or not.
|
If you flash to the stock map, you will need to drive maybe 30ish miles to complete the drive cycles needed.
I just smogged mine a couple weeks ago and did not flash back to stock. Passed fine. If you have an OBDII scan tool, I would use it and check your monitors. You can only have 1 monitor "not ready" or "ok" to still pass. |
Just got back and it passed fine with the stage 1 map. I didn't want to put it back to stock because I literally had to do it this week. Last time I did it after replacing the timing belt and and there weren't enough monitors cycled so I had to wait like a week.

Is it just a certain number of miles or is it a certain number of drive cycles (key on/drive/key off). Just curious. Thanks.
|
Has nothing to do with miles or drive cycles. The ECU is checking that the sensors and emissions control devices are doing their jobs correctly. Could take 15 miles or 200 miles to go through the checks.
|
It is not checks IMO. It has to store enough data for the test machine to verify it. I had it happen with my truck. Battery died and they said they couldn't smog it because it hadn't logged enough data. They said to drive it for a few hours and bring it back and it passed.
|
Trust me. The ECU is checking that the sensors and smog equipment are functioning within their designed limits. The ECU is checking that it isn't getting information outside of what its supposed to see. It isn't storing tons of random information, it only looks for what its not expecting.

Bump... Anyone know if the rules have changed for smog? Do you need to have all the monitors ready? The smog place i usually go to closed down and the new place is telling me that all monitors need to run. Its just the catalyst monitor that isn't ready. I've never had any issues before, but regs csn change do idk.. 03 wrx cobb stage 2 ots with stock dp on.

No new rules to my knowledge. Keep the tune on there and you should have no issues.

Thanks. Just got my car smogged yesterday. Took it to another shop to see what they said. besides making me disconnect my boost gauge, there were no issues. From what I've read on other sites, 01 and up are allowed 1 readiness monitor not set. |

What does a gauge have to do with smog? |

Exactly. |
What does a gauge have to do with smog?
It's just a break in the vacuum line. I'm sure that if it's oem there would be no problem. Everything is supposed to be as it came from factory. Borrrrringggg.
