Burning Oil-Normal?
I have a 2002 WRX with 25,000 miles. Engine & Drivetrain are stock.
Starting about 6,000 miles ago, it began using about one quart of oil every 3,000 miles (currently has 10W30 non-synthetic). I have been to the dealership twice to complain. They insist that it is normal for a turbo car, that I shouldn't be concerned. It isn't leaking, but burning it. My opinion is that this is wrong, and it shouldn't be using oil. Anyone else having this? Any opinions on whether this is normal/acceptable? Thanks |
Some vehicles do use oil, I am not sure how much the WRX's use over time though. Mine doesn't have enough miles yet to estimate oil usage.
An extreme example is the new M3, Car and Driver just did a long term review of an M3 and it had a huge apetite for oil. Something like 6 quarts per 10k miles, I can't remember the exact number. Plus, the oil is a special oil that costs $9 per quart. |
i think u might want to look at the way u do ur oil changes
are u filling the oil filter with oil first then adding oil after this was a problem i had and was corrected after i tried it its has something to do with ur not gettin a correct reading on ur dipstick and getting oil to flow through th system properly |
The dealer does the oil change. And the level is fine at first. It is definitely burning one quart about every 3,000 miles.
Question-does 'ur' ISP charge extra when you use consonants or extra letters? :D |
