BOVs and losing power
 

I recently put a slew of new items in my 2002 wrx sport wagon including cold air intake, short shifter, boost and oil pressure gauge, turbo timer and last an HKS SSQV blow off valve. It was after i looked around the internet for feed back on my new purchases that i realized that i was looking power and gas mileage. Can anyone tell what to get next that is the easiest way to get the power back that i lost from installing the bov.

You did not loose any power by installing the BOV.

^^what he said^^ and dump the CAI. have you installed or gutted an up-pipe? do you have any type of engine management? exhaust? downpipe?

As far as power mods go, a free-flowing exhaust should be one of your first purchases. I'd suggest a quality turboback exhaust, and a catless uppipe. After that, I'd say engine management is the next logical step.

CAI's have been known to cause problems with the A/F mixture on a WRX...which is why the last poster said to take it off. The stock airbox flows more than enough air until you start getting pretty deep into the mod thing.

The turbo timer is unneccessary, also. It won't hurt anything, but the stock turbo vents its heat through the cooling system. Aftermarket turbos are a different story.

you didn't even ask what brand or model of the CAI. in general terms, yes, the CAI is no good for the WRX. that is not to say all CAI is bad. CAI deisgned with ID of the piping at the MAF location same as stock will not cause lean conditions, provided that the design of the piping does not cause turbulent in drawn charge at the MAF.

no need to ask. the general consensus on CAI's are that they are a waste of money. comin from NA cars that was my first thought as a mod. did some research and figured the stock intake was good enough. to each his own though.

yea just listen whever he said!!

The next thing I'd do (if power is your concern, not necessarily legality) is get a catless uppipe and a turboback exhaust with a high flow cat (or no cats at all if you're that brave). The difference in engine response is simply stunning.

it was a bomz cold air intake that i installed. Do i need to take it off and put the old one back on or should i take of the cold pipe and just run it as a ram air intake. I mean it gots pretty hot in FL and i thought that it would be good to keep the air flowing colder.
