air/fuel ratio sensor

I have an 04 Impreza TS, 2.5 liter. Nothing fancy, just a regular librarian's car. At my recent oil change at the dealer I told the mechanic that the Check Engine light had recently come in (stays on, doesn't blink). His test identified that I need a new air/fuel ratio sensor. He quoted my $360, my corner mechanic will charge me $250. How easy is this repair to do? Can a literate person do this or should I trust it to a mechanic? Your opinions and advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

by air/fuel ratio sensor do you mean the oxygen sensor? and if so, is it the front (upstream) or rear (downstream). regardless, it shouldnt be too hard to replace either, other than lifting your car off the ground. i myself have to replace the rear o2 sensor myself.
