up shifting

hey guys,

got a question about upshifting (shifting from 1-2nd) (2nd-3rd) etc.

I was just curious if you guys give it a little gas while releasing the clutch on a upshift? just to make the shifts a little smoother?

do you do it for all gears or certain shifts?

any advice on how to do it?

Yea I usually find myself pressing down on the throttle a little bit while releasing the clutch on an upshift. I probably do it least for shifting into 5th though.

Generally, you should to make things smoother. I find myself doing it in all gears instead of just depressing the clutch, shifting, letting it out and then gassing. You want to match those rpms :)

i had no idea how to drive a standard when i got my car, after a while i found myself doing that to make things a bit smoother, but once you get used to the car you can let the clutch out quick at just the right revs and hit the gas and it will go very smoothly, almost like an automatic, but with a shift delay...i cant wait till i get my lighter flywheel and short shifter for X-mas WOOo!

yeah i have the short shifter by the way. Had it from the time i drove out of the lot so i couldnt tell you if it is alot better then the stock. The reason i asked this question is because for almost all the gears i can shift to where the rev's drop to the right spot except for the 1-2nd shift and occasional 2nd to 3rd shift. How much gas to you give it? Also do you start giving it gas when the clutch is to the floor? or when your releasing the clutch?

I usually give it a little gas, just because it makes things bit smoother, but occasionally I'll have an agressive brain lapse and sort of randomly let the clutch up after shifting, and it does seem a little less smooth, but I don't think it is detrimental to tranny life.
