Transmission Problem? Pics w/ Description

Last few days I've been hearing a sound that I think is coming from the tranny

As I come to a stop, I can hear a whirring click click click sound (best way I can describe it, happens whether I'm in gear, in gear with the clutch in, applying brakes or coasting without brakes).

After checking all the fluids (oil, tranny oil, etc.) I crawled under the car to make sure nothing looked wrong. I noticed some grease coming out of the driver side axle/transmission interface.

I also noticed some oil around where the shift linkage enters the tranny case.

Car is '02 WRX Manual

TIA for your help!

Some pics...

Could be wheel bearings. The grease is for the splines that come out of the front diff. tear down the axles and clean and grease. for the seal around the shifter linkage u would need to drop the tranny i belive. what kinda oil u use?

I don't think it's the wheel bearings, I've had one go bad, and it didn't sound ANYTHING like this...

Motor: Mobil 1 15000 (changed every 3000)
Tranny/Rear diff: Mobil 1 75-90

Why spend the extra money on a long run oil and change it every 3000miles? What does this have to do with your tranny?

He asked me what oil I was using, did not specify motor or tranny, for all I know this issue might not be related to the tranny at all, I'm just assuming it is...

kinda sounds like your gears are starting to go out. drain a little bit of the fluid and see if there are any metal shaving and if its black.

yup, kinda...

No metal shavings, but some dirty *** tranny oil! It's not even close to needing to change the oil, but looks like I'll have to doit anyway.

Are those "transmission flush" es a good idea, or a waste of money?

Tranny Oil>
(that little rock on my hand is from putting my hand on the ground, not from the transmission)

Its the grease seal for the cv axle. if its clicking and making noise you might need a new cv axle because all the dirt gets past the seal and mauls it up.
