rear diff. oil change
 

i changed trans oil with neo oil,and now i am trying to change rear diff. oil, the problem i have is the bolts drain and filler bolts. It is very hard to unbolt it ever i use a foot long braker bar! Well, is it anyway to lose the bolts with out using impact gun??

Should i heat it up around the bolts b4 i losing it??

the next thing i going to try is, drive for 15min-20min until the rear diff. get warm than i try to losing it, i hope it work.

I wouldn't recommend heating the case to remove the bolts (assuming you mean with fire) - the fill/drain bolts both have a threadlocker on them from the factory, and can be a little stubborn. I just used a regular long-handled ratchet and got them off no problem - an impact wrench or air ratchet should get the job done, too. Definitely get the car up on stands - the extra space really helps.

Mine came off with a 1/2" drive ratchet no problem. You may need to hit the ratchet with a deadblow or mallet to get it to break loose.

when i did mine i just pushed up really hard on my breaker bar like i was bench pressing the car and finally it came off. just watch your fingers. i think i semi crushed mine since i was pushing so hard.

also doing forget a pump or syring to fill the tranny. i forgot and spent 10 minutes slowing filling mine with a small section of hose.

well, i did push it up very hard! i just scare to brake the tranny, because when i push it up hard it seem the tranny were moving up ! Should i push harder??

Yeh, i get the pump but it pump very very slow,(maybe not ever suck it up at all)

what kind of pump do you use?

I've found at the local AutoZone a small pump like device that makes adding fluids less messy. It's pretty cheap too. Basically it looks like a large version of a Ketchup or mustard dispensing pump you might see at McDonald's but it has a long tube on the dispensing end. You stick the dip tube in the bottle of stuff you want to pump and the tube end in the upper diff hole. Works very nicely.

what i did was put my ratchet under the car and then use a jack to jack it up instead of using my own strength. worked for me.

Did mine on my F-XT last night, I used a 1/2" drive ratchet and gave it a couple of hits with a plastic dead hammer. Worked for me

I wil try every thing you guy give me. I hope can save me $10 to do it outside!!

Also, when I put the plugs back in I put some teflon tape on the threads (leaving the first two going in exposed) because I noticed some sort of compound that looked like epoxy or something, was on there. I'm not sure if this was a good idea or not but I didn't have any of that epoxy stuff and didn't want it to leak. Drove in today and checked no leaks so far.

Ya, the WRX's (and I assume all subies) have that three bond stuff on them from the factory. At least that's what the service manual says.
