2nd gear engine knuby knock?

I've got a 2004 bone stock WRX sedan with 4000miles on it. I love the car, but in the past few days ive noticed something strange. When accelerating in 2nd gear, at about 5200 rpms, the car stutters, almost as if ive taken my foot off the gas, then a split second later jumped back on. A friend suggested engine knock, I know I'm a nuby and this is probably an easy problem to solve. I use 93 octane, the car is warmed up and this is the only gear it has happened in.
1) What is goin' on here?
2) How can I make my baby better again?
thanks in advance for your insight and info.

Car Info: 2016 Acura RDX ... meh. Um, nice subwoofer?
So new? Take it back to the dealership. If you can easily reproduce it, even better.
On my '02 I used ot have lotsa stutters when it was new. I tried the grounding mod. It helped a little. But when I took it to the dealership and they did some magic handwaving w/ their little blue ECU tweaking box, it got much, much better.
