Question 1st to 2nd gear shift problem?

I have a 2006 STI and I have noticed latley that when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at at or above 6000 RPM's im getting locked out from going in to second gear. the fastest i can shift the car at that high of an RPM is slow and jerky. as apposed to quick and smooth. Anybody have any ideas if this is a syncro mesh problem or something else?

thanks for the info. I just took a drive down Highway 9 In the mountains and had a chance to really feel how fast the car will shift from 1st to 2nd and everything seems to be ok. I guess you can't speed shift as fast as i thought with this cars stock shifter set-up. What a about a short throw shifter for quicker shorter shifts? Would that eliminate this problem?
