STI first time

Well I finally raced my STI. I have never raced anything before.

R/T .662
60 1.954
330 5.913
1/8 9.101
MPH 76.57
990 11.758
1/4 14.158
MPH 97.86

My fastest mph were 99.34@14.338

I probably should have shifted earlier. I had the spare and the jack in the car and was running on 93 octane gas.

Go race again and see if there is room to improve...being your first time and all. :)

sti'lin Jul 1, 2003 08:12 AM

That's my plan. I already planned on how I can shift better to improve my times. Also I had a full tank of gas and all the junk in the trunk.

next time

No spare
No jack
Maybe a 50/50 mix of 94 octane and 104 octane

Also I did three runs in a row without a cooldown in between.
I saw other guys icing down their intakes, I might try a bag of ice on my intercooler and another on my intake between runs.

I bought it for autocrossing but drag racing is pretty fun, and it lets me get it out of my system instead of doing it on the street.

you should race your car as you drive it

meaning, spare tire, jack, seats, and everything else

when i tell people what my 1/4 time is, i can back it immediately outside if i have to, because i run it the way i drive it

i havent run my rs yet, but my old neon ran a 15.3 full interior, spare/jack, 50lb bag of dog food in the trunk (i passed by the drag strip on the way home), misc. garbage in the car, pool cues, 60lb subwoofer and box in trunk w/amps and everything else.

im sure if i ever bothered to take that **** out i woulda run a 15.1 or so, but i liked knowing how fast my car really is, not how fast it is when i make it lighter just for the race.

yeah there something to drag.totally different but practice, practice .i ran a low 14 a well but then she only had 500 miles on her.lanching is the key hi revs and slip the clutch a little and you shoulld do better.on set the diff split max. rear i've noticed much better response oh and lots of ice both on the intercooler and in the mister.let you know the next time i run-good luck:)

midy_mouse Aug 30, 2003 07:05 PM

Lethalchem Sep 4, 2003 09:32 AM

Congrats on taking it out. You will improve I'm sure. Point is to have fun.

insaneSTi Sep 11, 2003 09:06 AM

14 flat and 99mph is a joke your leaving a whole lot on the table stock WRX's run14.2-14.5@93-95mph

Lethalchem Sep 12, 2003 09:34 AM

It was his first time running, I think he did well for the first time out. What are your times?:p

SuboobaruWRSEX Sep 14, 2003 12:35 PM

Havnt taken my WRX to the track yet- scared to break somthing. But my Grand National ran 11.08 @ 21 psi. That is fast.

insaneSTi Sep 23, 2003 10:22 AM

I haven't raced the STi yet only 800miles on her but my del sol VTEC w/ just aem cai and some weight reduction ran 14.9@92mph and in my friend's 02 WRX i ran a 14.3@93mph i expect 13.5@101 as my best in the first 3 runs but i expect 13.2or better after a couple runs. Probably go to the strip not this sat but next i'll post my slip and video if i can borrow my buddies digital camcorder.

wrxinit Oct 10, 2003 05:39 AM

14.3 @93 thats kinda slow on the traps speeds, everytime i ran i went 14.1@96.1 when it was stock. im now running txs mbc, greddy evo exhaust scoopysport dwn pipe, cai, hks bov. im putting down 13.6@98 1.87 60'

TegT Oct 14, 2003 04:10 PM

Yeah, definitely still have lots to improve.
Try launching higher and slip the clutch. You want to rpms's to stay high as it grabs and starts taking off. Taking out the spare and running less gas will also reduce your times. Shift faster. Sounds obvious, but there's lots going on and sometimes that's not the most immediate thing one thinks about.
Great start though!
