Most WRX and STi owners start to rev the engines on the line just after staging, then as they launch the clutch is let out just enough to get the car moving while maintaining enough throttle to keep the engine near the torque peak. Once the car moves off the line nail the throttle and let the clutch out as rapidly as you can without bogging the car down. It's a delicate touch and a fine line between frying your clutch with too much clutch slip and bogging the engine. It takes practice. Post up your time slip or copy and paste all of the numbers so we can see the 60 ft clock and your trap speed. 60 ft time is pretty much indicative of how your launch was. time slips
Here are the numbers that i ran at the track with my sti.. they suck i need to get a better start.
1st Run. Reaction: .483 l1 : 1.946 l2: 5.841 l3: 9.055 E.T: 14.297 MPH: 86.9 2nd Run. Reaction: .358 l1: 2.073 l2: 5.977 l3: 9.026 E.T: 14.3 MPH: 94.68 |
You meant 96mph on the first run right?

those look more like stock wrx runs

First - you are not taking your time. If you were you wouldn't be red lighting.
My advice is get staged quickly after a quick practice launch so you can gauge where the clutch is grabbing. Then wait for the other person to stage if necessary. Once you are both staged the yellow lights will start and you can now go whenever you're ready. So get your engine rev'd up to 5k then let the clutch out rapidly while pressing the throttle wide open. My only other advice is don't focus on the tachometer. Look straight and focus on the launch. You need to be very aggressive. Launching a car at the drags isn't for people that baby their cars. I've cut 1.8 to 1.7 60 ft times like this in my stock STi with a best of 13.4 @ 100mph. PS - You spelled launching wrong! |

Haha... and you need proper punctuations. I'd take fast_xr4's advice.. that's what I've been told of my other STi friends. It works wonders! |
