Compatability

I've recently found a junkyard in my town that just aqcuired a 2003 2.5 RS. They want to sell me the engine for $350. The car was hit on the front end and the tensioner through the belt, they siad this bent the valves. What do I need to do to put this engine into a 95 impreza L coupe? I know I'll need the ECU, Wiring Harness, and Engine, what sensors and what else do I need to pull to make this work? Will this work with my stock transmission? What about the engine mounts? Does anyone know a good shop I can call to find out about all this?

how much to buy the whole thing?, u culd do a full swap, i have no clue what ur mod level or budget is, but u culd take the seats, steering wheel (probobly not tho, airbag shuld have deployed) but you culd also take the exhaust and instrument cluster. Thats just my 2 cents though, I've wanted to do a complete swap since I got my car, but I can't afford to buy a wrecked wrx, sure the rs isn't as good, but prob better than ur 95. as far as ur question tho. Not much of a clue, taking things like the instrument cluster, ac, and other things might help tho. GL

if the valves are bent you need a valve job maybe some head work=scrilla
but for the swap youd need the ecu, harnrness, motor(of course) and alot of time for wiring

You'll want everything if you are going to do a complete smog legal swap. I recently completed MY00 2.5 conversion into a MY95 L. Fortunately this car was from CA, so it already had most of the sensors that reside in the fuel tank and emission control devices. I can tell you personally that this conversion is just as involved as doing a WRX conversion, if not more. Figure you have to make an OBD-I car into OBD-II. Colorado is just below us (CA) as far as emission standards go. Or maybe you live in a county without smog laws such as Weld county, but then this doesn't help all that much since you still have to wire it correctly to make it run, not to mention resell value if it's legal.

I'm not worried about resale value. When I graduate I'm gonna buy a new STI and turn my 95L into a rally car. Right now I just want to know the cheapest way to get more power out of an EJ18. College is killing my wallet so anyone that knows how to get this car faster for cheap could seriously help in the info department.

I wouldnt buy that engine. You would be better off buying an RS engine that runs fine with 100k miles on it than a new engine that was hit like that on the front end. Major work is required to get it to operate properly, and it still might not work.

Ive been thinking about starting a post that deals with EJ25 swaps into L's. I will start working on it now.

It's definitely not worth it to buy a broken motor. There are plenty of EJ25 swaps to be found in other junkyards.
