R32 Legal to Import in 2014?

So... The 1989 R32 Skyline will be 25 years old in 2014... Is it going to be legal to import because it is now a "classic"?

GO!

We might be able to import due to the "classics" rule, but what about registration? I think the rules are a little more strict. Interested to know what others have found in regards to the OP!

I've done light research on this and people were saying that it will be 100% possible under the "classic/antique" car title. There really isn't much restriction on classic cars. No EPA or even DOT troubles
Of course, I would expect prices to be jacked up like crazy :/

DOT and EPA are federal laws. The car would need to be smogged to be CA registered. Best thing to do is to talk to a smog ref about what they expect. What I've read, the smog ref will look at a similar USA car (year, manufacturer, engine size, etc), and make you apply that smog equipment to the imported car. Nissan added an EGR to most of their USA imports to meet smog regulations, and they might get picky by saying the intake manifold would need to be an OEM piece, and there are no OEM EGR R32 intake manifolds in existence.

they are only blacklisted for the "show or display" law, not the 25year exempt law. They should be able to come into the US and skirt the DOT and NHSTA standards as soon as the 25 year mark hits.

now to get them registered in CA.. good luck with that.

So would I. I'm actually looking for an r32 or r33 or r34 or s15. So if anyone knows a ca legit one, have em contact me. 3 of the 4 have been offered to me
But none in ca. I hate our bs tree hugger laws. I have a couple friends with all those cars out in tx and fl... They have it good...

My brother told me a company in socal has already imported and got the R32 DOT approved a year or so ago, not sure if that's true. I'll try to find a source on that

Sean Morris is former Motorex and this is his new venture - showordisplay.com. Read through this site and you will see what it all entails. the first R32 landed on US soil a few weeks ago and was delivered to its new owner.

For the average person, trying to get this car is going to be a major headache and will involve a lot of money. be prepared financially and mentally for the trials ahead.
