Past, Present, and Future: Official VW Bug Owners Thread

Well I know that I'm not the only who has had/have/want at VW Bug. The previous car to my suby was a 1969 bug (I actually owned two before I could even drive).

Coming into the world of Subaru I had many questions about my car and continue learning about it. I have asked members for advice and help when needed. Some members know that I used to have a Bug and are thinking of getting one. The tables have turned and now I'm the one getting asked questions. I am no pro nor do I know everything there is to know.

The main purpose for this thread is to help out fellow Bug enthusiasts.

Feel free to post up pics of your past, present, or future bugs :)

Well my first bug was a 73 super beetle.. Didnt run and i bought it for $250. Dit majority of the body work and decided i didnt want to rebuild an engine, so i sold it for like $500. Before i sold it i bought my 69 and only for $800. It ran just still needed work.

Here are some shots over the years
(started body work and had fun with it lol)

Redid all the carpeting, put in original "low-back" style seats and got rid of the head rests. New rear seat cover, new door cards, stereo

Had this car for almost 7 years. LOVED it! I put over $7500 in and sold it for about $4300. Used most of that for a down payment for my wrx. I would love to do another bug years from now, and do it up even better!

I've owned a '64 bug (red with white roof rack), and a '59 ragtop bug (beautiful two tone paint job, emerald green with pearl white). I miss my '59 all the time, and hopefully I can get a '54 or '55 Oval window someday when I have a garage to work on it over the years. :)

I really want to get another one! If it wasnt for money I would have kept my 69. But I would love a ragtop!

I also want an STi down the road as well, then saw this thread and well, why not have both

wrxisthebest 05-13-2009 04:15 PM

damm..

one question tho...

the way the rims mounted on ur blue one looks way different than the way my 63' mounts on.. the blot pattern looks alot narrower on yours...

stupidchicken03 05-13-2009 04:27 PM

its sad you can't see the bolt pattern. but there is this huge thing and the wheel bolts onto the hub. it uses bolts not nuts... wierd..

stupidchicken03 05-13-2009 04:39 PM

yea mine used bolts too... I bought on conversion kit to put studs in so you could use lug nuts. But i never got around to buying custom lug nuts to match my paint

wrxisthebest 05-13-2009 04:40 PM

then ill probably end up buying the conversion kit.. **** bolts... that makes that **** hard.

see the first guys bolts on the second pic... thats what mine looks like..

stupidchicken03 05-13-2009 04:47 PM

 ya... it got to be a pain having to hold the tires up to bolt them on... The studs were pretty damn cheap too. Ryan when you start workin on it, where are you going to get ur parts from?

This is where I got most my stuff in the end...
http://www.bugformancesuperstore.com/

Little more expensive with some stuff but really liked the guys workin there and it was only like a 20min drive from my. Most of the bug shops had closed up or moved out of area.

EDIT: ahh gotcha... yea its just a diff bolt pattern. Prolly just changed it up over the years?

wrxisthebest 05-13-2009 04:49 PM

and then the grey bug on the next set of pics is the exact rims i will have too..

so your bugs wheels are hella different than most.

most have the 5-6 bolts and you have 4 bolts to begin with...
