Boost Addict 03-05-2006 12:01 AM

bump!!! anyone taken a measurement with a g-tech??? or any reliable magazines ran it??? my guess is about 5 flat...

anyone?

huffyrex 03-07-2006 04:27 PM

i say low 5's, not flat.

Sinister Subaru 03-10-2006 06:42 AM

Probably in about 5.7. Get a G-Tech. ;)

Boost Addict 03-10-2006 07:54 AM

I'd say low 5's too, except with a good driver the 02-03s were already capable of that... cmon now... have some faith... 5 flat ;)

kreature12 03-12-2006 12:14 PM

I g-tech'd my 06 TR and was consistenty running about 5.2's-5.3's. i ran it many times with different settings and that was about the average.

excel 03-12-2006 08:54 PM

^ that's good man, I think a 5.1 or 5.0 is even possible

for some reason it doesn't seem that fast cause the power comes on so nicely, but the truth of the matter is you get up to 60 so fast

What rpm did you launch at?

agphotography 03-17-2006 05:48 PM

since i dont have a gtech, i was going by a stopwatch with my cousin watching closely lol.

first try - slow launch ( 3k ) pulled to 60 in 5.5sec
second try - regular launch (4.5k ) pulled to 60 in 5.3 consistently ( 5 trials )

im sure its capable of even better times, but im just an average joe who loves to drive.

and the fact that i was even able to get to 60 in under 6 seconds was the most exciting thing for me, as my old car ( 2000 VW passat 1.8T ) couldnt' do it ANY quicker than 7.9

its a quick car, and i freakin love it. lol.

cant wait to get the COBB stg 1!!! its absolutely perfect, i dont need some crazy peak HP, but that smooth band is a thing of beauty.

That surprises me about how slow the 1.8T Passat is. I had one as a rental and it felt pretty quick....

My wife has a 1.8t gli with the close ratio 6-speed, they're torquey down low but run outta poop about 4k.

168 hp and 3151-lb curb weight isn't a great combination, but any VW owner knows that pain. They never have engines that match the extreme heaviness of the cars (with the R32 as an exception).

The R32 is a pig. A buddy of mine has one (with some mods) and he doesn't stand a chance against my STi. My STi has nothing more than a Cobb Stage 1 ECU tune and a K&N panel filter. He gets me on the launch though, but that's only because I don't launch my car at 5000 rpms. I value my car. :D Off the roll, it's not even funny......

I used to own a '02 1.8T GTI and that car was pretty "snappy." In '02 the power was upped from 150 hp to 180 hp. Stock it ran 15.7x @ 91 mph. I'm sure the 1/4 would've been much more impressive but my lack of experience with a manual clearly did me in. Honestly, I was amazed that I even ran a 15.7x in it. A buddy of mine had one and he ran a 14.7x @ 93 mph bone stock. Admittedly (by the owner) the car was a "freak." 93 mph definitely wasn't the norm for a 1.8T, and neither were 14.7xs. Most were running in the 15.20-15.40 range.

FWIW, my dad's '89 L98 GTA only turned 92 mph bone stock in the 1/4 so it was fun rubbing it in his face that my Volkswagen trapped nearly just as fast as his GTA. :rotfl:

Yes, it definitely felt quick on the low-end. The one I had was equipped with the Tiptronic, I believe it was....

agphotography 03-22-2006 10:41 AM

no no see it gets even worse, i had the 2000, which in that year had 150bhp so its even slower! the torque does come in nice and strong at 1800 rpm and i did have the 5spd manual, but it does just run out of steam, especially in the tiptronic. i mean im not going to say i didnt like it. i LOVED that car, and it saved my life twice. but by comparison, the wrx is phenominally faster.
