Standalone ecu and flex fuel sensor

Any e85 tuned guys running a gm flex fuel sensor with a standalone ecu? Worth it?

Do you e85 guys test your e85 at every fill up?

That sensor above is something Im going to invest in when I do the full switch

Nope. I've only tested it once or twice in the 2 years I've been using it. Propel is supposedly pretty consistently the same. I've been using the same pump for every fill up and haven't noticed much if any change in performance.

my car is getting a tune at FLI and Miles suggested it if i was to go E85. i was curious on the reliability of the sensor and if there are others running it in the bay area.

seems like a good option to have.

Wow! So the Link ECU (with help of the sensor)reads the content of ethanol and adjusts the tune accordingly? Does it only work for e85 or can someone fill up with 91 and have the ECU adjust itself to it?
That is impressive either way?

I would imagine that the OEM GM sensor would be very reliable, since it is installed on hundreds of thousands of FlexFuel vehicles all over the world. I'd be willing to bet that it's infinitely more reliable than any number of the aftermarket parts we run on our cars day in and day out.

To answer Javi's question, yes - it will adjust the map on the fly for 91 octane as well. True Flex Fuel functionality.

There is also a company called Pro Efi that does this as well, where it changes your map on the fly as it reads the octane level of the E85. Their closest shop that would be able to do the tuning and install is in LA though. I've emailed them before and they said they would be able to do it on an STi. They have them already on Evos and Supras

Both Ed from EQ and Mike from GST have said they can do this tuning with the Zeitronics kit if I recall correctly. There was another thread that had this exact conversation in it.

Need a few other things in order to run E85. The Zeitronics and the sensor are just extra stuff to run it dynamically from what I know. I am not sure if using the Zeitronics kit and tuning it with it will allow you to switch between 91 and E85 at will.

You need fuel pump and injectors mostly.

There is another thread floating around that has all of the info. Not sure where it is though.

Oh I understand that. I'm sure most of us that have turbo upgrades or such have these components already. Besides this Zeitronics kit, the sensor and the actual tuning to make this all work.
