what to do
haiguyz
my lady friend and i are planning to go up some time in jan and looking for stuff to do.. that's as precise as it's gotten so nothing definitive yet.. she has never been and i'm personally a very "lounge around" type of guy other than getting my *** up to pt
i'd much rather prefer to stay out of sf.. according to the previous times i've been in sf, it's a pretty big cluster**** driving around and paying tolls suck
things we'd rather not do - clubbing, bars, touristy stuff
things we'd rather do - we'd be ok with pretty much anything else.. that thread on the shooting meet sounds pretty neat.. but we're pretty much good for random things other than what's listed on what we'd rather not do
i'll be taking my subaru up as well, so hopefully you folks can suggest places where i won't have to worry too much about my car
alrighty, folks.. lmk what's out there=)
edit - i spoke to her last night and i had forgotten she actually did tell me she had been to norcal just once.. she actually did the touristy really quickly like 10yrs ago but didn't get much of a chance to explore any other places.. so she told me it wouldn't really be too worth it to do it again and to go places to do stuff we can do together that non tourists do

A list of things I would do if I had a lot of spare time and gas/travel money:
* Drive up to the snowy mountains
* Scout out dirt roads for other Subaru owners to try out (just try to keep it legal!)
* Try out the Bay Area's local mountain passes!!!1 http://www.lateralg.org/roads/cennwest/cennwest.htm
* go mountain biking on the Bay Area's local parks
I could go on, but I'm sleepy and can't think of more at the moment.

There is in fact a lot to do. Maybe karting? California's Great America amusement park in Santa Clara? The urbanites of the Bay Area can elaborate far better than a dreaming adventurer could...

Dude, if she's never been up here and you don't wanna do any touristy stuff, I honestly think she's kinda gettin' gypped out of some vacation experience. It's like going down to So Cal and spending the whole time in some lame *** place like Agoura Hills or something instead going to Disneyland, Studio City, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica, etc. But that's just my 2 cents.

Academy of Sciences and Golden Gate Park
Sunset Dinner in Half Moon Bay at Sam's Chowder House (30 min drive from SF)
Although touristy, Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf is a must
You can't come to SF without riding a cable car
Indoor rock climbing at Mission Cliff
A walk through the Haight and Ashbury District
Exploratorium

Monterey Bay Aquarium is cool too even though its like an hour south again from East Bayish area. Dong took my idea with the Golden Gate park and exploratorium haha and if SF Traffic is killer to you, you could always take the ferry from oakland over to the Piers and do that.

If you want to get a sick view of the SF skyline, go over to Treasure Island at night. You can see the city across the bay and the view is unobstructed. If it's not foggy you could get a nice shot from on top of twin peaks too. Debatable which is better.
