Watched Extra Gear. Much better. It felt so rushed though.

Extra gear is the interview session. Better host...lame content.
I'll give it one more episode and then if it doesn't get better I am out.

Man, so much hate

I realize this show has a bigger budget and expectations than original TG relaunch, but the show is still starting from complete scratch. No amount of money or talent can overcome the time it takes to develop true raptor and chemistry. One cannot judge a 1 month dating relationship by 10 year relationship standards.

I am giving a season for them to shake things out.

LxJLthr... I disagree with you. It is not starting from complete scratch. They are continuing an existing franchise with an existing format and existing fan base.
They did not nor do not need to create anything.

I think the show dropped the "bombshell" "stig" and other items that were thought to be proprietary of Jeremy Clarkson just to show that BBC and Top Gear own all of it.

I dont think they changed far enough away from the traditional Top gear, and in not going far enough away, they had a horrendous host that tried to be cranky like Jeremy and it didnt work.

Some things just dont work. I think the thing that most people liked about the old top gear was each presenter had their own personality that was true and consistent.
I think annoying glasses guy was faking it too much.

I think Matt did an ok job and he will get better as he relaxes into himself.

But **** can glasses and bring the black dude and sabrine into the main show and let them be honest and fun.

and continue the old format.

I think we are in agreement more than you realize.

Existing fan base and franchise was based and perfected around Claaaaarkson!, Hampster and Captain Slow. Their interactions and presentations WAS the whole format.

Like you said, everyone need to develop their own personalities/acts/gags/etc on their own instead of imitating past hosts and formats. How will they accomplish that sticking to the old playbook? May be you meant continuing the old show's segments structure?

It would like replacing Curry, Green and Thompson from the GW (or whatever sport scratches your *****) and expecting the same play performance and season results. The franchise just won't be the same and the coach would need to develop a brand new strategies.

Unless they get a new host to replace Chris Evans, I can't stand watching it.

I have zero desire to watch it. Zero. Honestly... that's as far as it'll get. I don't care if they come out and say it's the best show ever... won't watch it. Just don't care.

To me it's like this...

Except for a very very few cases the lead singer in a band dies and that band should die.

Good example is Stone Temple Pilots. Scott WAS the sound of that band. You can't just put someone else with a name in there and expect the band to still be the band. Sticking dude in there from Lincoln Park was a farce. One of the worst things I've ever heard. Now had they said... o.k. Well we have a new singer. Lets write some new material. Make a new band. Then fine. It's a new band. But instead they tried to make a few bucks on the history of STP... slap in the face of fans.

That's what they're doing here. This should be a new show. New name. New expectations. Create a format that works for this cast, crew and budget.

Then... then I'd be curious enough to watch it.

Just finished the first episode and couldn't agree more. Evans is no bueno. LeBlanc was good in the Nomad bit. It'll be interesting to see how it all develops, that's for sure.

Some of the biggest bands ever changed lead singers. Van Halen, AC/DC, journey (kinda)

but I agree most of the time it just doesnt work. STP I can forgive, the guys are tyring to cash in for the last time.

Bon Scott died right after they released their first album. They nearly broke up but stayed together because Scott's mom asked them to. And Johnson sounded just like him...

Van Halen was always about... van halen.
