Subaru Europe President Hiroyuki Ikeda dropped an unexpected announcement in his Paris motor show speech when he mentioned that the company was working on a SubaruBoxer Turbo Diesel and that development is nearly complete.

interesting. I think this is subaru's first foray into the world of diesel? too bad we'll never see that stateside.

why? to me that's looking backward instead of forward.

both gas and diesel come from crude oil.

yeah but biofule is on the rise and the diesel motor has no ignition so its a simpler motor also there no smog on diesel motors, besides look at Audi they used diesel motors in there le mons cars this year and they took first and second place

exactly what I was thinking.....and exactly why it's rare we will see that motor stateside anytime soon.

Within the next couple years, the US gov't is going to loosen their restrictions on diesel engines. From what I heard and read in Hot Rod magazine. Something about right now their emissions can only be above 500ppm but within a few years it will go down to 15ppm. Which would allow a lot more diesel engines to come state side. When I get home I'll quote the article exactly.

Turbo diesels are a good alternative to crummy hybrid cars. Turbo diesels have a great low end power and get excelent gas mileage. Mix that with biofuel and you have an inexpensive reliable car that hugs trees.
