I figured that, since he said "forrester". But yeah, I totally agree -- Subaru has been doing the 4WD thing for a while, and it became pretty popular around that time. Then the whole SUV thing started and the small AWD car thing kinda died down

HAHAHA! Yesss...
Heh.. Subaru started it a LOOONG time ago (like, early 70's) and the Justy was the last car with part-time 4WD available from Subaru. Also, all the earlier Subarus (there was no model, it was a Subaru wagon or sedan or coupe - the only "model" was the Brat) were manual transfer-case style shift just like an old truck. The Justy has a electro-vacuum actuated transfer case where you push a big red button on the shifter to engage 4WD, and the little wheels light up on the picture of the car on the dash. I sold my last 4WD Justy in 2008, and it just got back from Tahoe. It is currently the featured Justy on this site: Justy Justice
Although, this Honda car is not really a "6speed" the way you think of it. 1st is really an "ultra-low" gear to make 4WD useful off road. 2nd-6th are normal highway gears. The Justy was a worse solution using a normal 5spd and a 5.1:1 final drive. Hello 4200rpm @ 75mph!! 2WD Justys have a lower final drive, which is why I have a 2WD Justy today. Anyway...

I had one as a loaner car one time while my Si was being worked on and it wasn't awful. It just ain't a Subie.
