Smoke Out The Cap

What's up techies,

Took my car over to capitol subaru yesterday and had them take a look at my car.

Problem: When Car is running I remove oil filler cap and notice immense amounts of smoke coming out. Like there is something fried inside, maybe some rings?

Conclusion: Service department said that the smoke is normal and all cars do that. Even a new 2008 sti.
I tried getting them to pull out a car so they can show me the NORMALITY of this situation, they refused.
Finally got an appointment, didn't really feel reassured, and am hoping for the best.

Question: How normal is this, and is it normal for an sti to be BURNING oil? Simply can't believe it's perfectly normal.

NO NEED FOR UNINTELLIGENT COMMENTS, JUST SUPPORT. THANKS.

completely normal. a little steam a little smoke. All new cars burn/consume oil. Thats why you should always check your oil when filling up on gas. No worries.

smoke or vapor?

I see vapor like oil when I remove the cap while the engine is running, and it covers my hand in a thin layer of oil. It also does not smell like smoke, smells like heated oil, but not burning oil.

is it thick smoke, like you cant cant see through it? or is it gray but still see through? All the cars that ive seen they all "smoke" out of the cap, ive been told that its just because the oil is hot and thats what happens. My 08 does it, its not alot but still.

If you have "immense" amounts of smoek, that is no good. Like the other said a little is normal, but if your having thick white smoke coming out your oil is burning for some reason. Probably best that you had it looked into.

If it's smoking from the cap like a steady amount and is burning oil I would bet you have ring damage.

Vapor from the cap is normal, steady smoke is not.

How much oil are you going through?

Hello Mike!

It's Daniel, saw you yesterday. My rings are fried, gonna do a consumption test at the dealership. Steady smoke, like it's burning oil. You nailed it.

Definately not good!

How could it be a new car? I thought you bought a used car knowing it was a modded car. Least thats what you said at a meet we were all at.

Capitol has Lifetime powertrain warranty.

Hopfully they are cool with your turboback. I know a few people that have had mods installed at Capitol....so hopfully you are good.
