Currently have GEICO and regretting it.

Switched from Progressive cuz they were cheaper (~$620/6 mo for the specB) but now that I actually have to file a claim they SUCK and they are being super cheap with the repairs.

After this claim finally gets settled I'm out.

Believe me - you get EXACTLY what you pay for with insurance.
I've watched the cheap online insurances screw over clients for years.

For the record I have had the best luck going through a broker - they do all of the comparison for you
Allied Brokers Insurance Brokerage Palo Alto, Free Quote for Insurance San Francisco, Insurance Brokers San Jose, Insurance Company Menlo Park, Insurance Agents San Francisco, Free Quote for Insurance San Jose

I have Mercury.
Here's the breakdown:
(Cost means how much each thing contributes to the overall cost of the insurance (the 745))

$745 / 6 months

Bodily Injury Liability - 100k per person, 300k per accident (costs 100)
Property Damage Liability - 100k per accident (costs 109)
Uninsured Motorist - 30k per person, 60k per accident (costs 22)
Collision Deductible Waiver - Yes (costs 5)
Medical Expense - 5k per person (costs 12)
Comprehensive Deductible - $500 (costs 123)
Collision Deductible - $500 (costs 373)

This is claiming I drive 12k miles per year.
This is on an 09 WRX with 36k miles (at the start of the policy).
I did not claim any aftermarket parts, even though I have about $4.5k of them.

I did think about going with a higher collision deductible to lower the price more, but didn't want to screw myself if I got into an accident.

I have had good luck with Progressive, never filed a claim or anything with them. They cut my rates in half after being with them for a year or so with no issues.

I'll try them out. I did get my quote from CSE from a broker, just to be clear.

Thanks for all the inputs so far, hopefully I'm not the only one benefiting.

Yikes.

That's with my SpecB and a G20, for my wife and myself.
Followup 4yrs later - shopping again. Glad this thread still existed!
Still have the 08 SpecB, replaced the G20 with '15 Outback 2.5i Limited.
Was/am with GEICO. $750/6mo (with G20), then $850/6mo (Outback), and this period they raised that to $1200/6mo (ouch!).

Full disclosure - I parked in a tight spot earlier this year. Hit a post, rear fender damage >$3k.

Farmers is $1940/6mo

Esurance is quoting $1400/6mo, agent dropped it to $1100/6mo
Progressive is $1040/6mo
Amica is $960/6mo -- anyone heard of this company? Seems to be pretty low. Lots of hate for it on ConsumerAffairs though.

Geico seems to be the lowest in the bay area...but I have yet to hear good things about them. I have them as well, and nothing bad has happened, but recently invested a bunch in aftermarket parts....and am debating switching insurance because I heard Geico is a biatch about such things.

I still stand by Allied Brokers, I've audited my policy several times and they've always been cheapest. This includes my wife's CTA Union insurance

Not doubting you, but when I tried to go through them - I was passed off to two different people (all requiring the same information again). And it just went downhill from there. Probably just a one-off event.

Wife (also CTA member) is on California Casualty. I signed up originally due to the fact that any aftermarket mods are automatically covered and no dollar amount was needed to specify upon signup. After 4-5 years and our policy never reducing in price (even though we both drive less) I ended up gradually moving my vehicles off the policy. Currently she's the only one left and I have two vehicles on Progressive. They've been cheapest and fairly easy to deal with for additions/modifications to the policy.

Then again, in 20+ years of driving I've never had to file a single claim. So I don't care about that stuff. If/when I do, I don't have any apprehension on jumping ship to another carrier after the payout.

Wow I think I'm just screwed with insurance. Right now I pay about $850/6 months with Mercury for a 2011 2.5i. I'm 28 don't have any points or claims since someone hit me 10 years ago. Also, everytime I shop the others are $1,000 plus. No idea why my insurance each year is like 15% of the value of my car.

^^^ You are getting jacked homes. Do you live in a bad neighborhood with high crime/theft rates or have poor credit? Those are the only two major reasons I can think off.

I have the following...

2012 Toyota Tacoma
2006 Acura TSX
1992 Dodge Stealth R/T TT

$1,000 deductible, 300,000/100,000 + collision coverages = ~$90/month

I live in Dublin by the outlet mall and my credit score is in the low to mid 700s. I'm going shop around again but Mercury has always been the lowest, even compared to the bargain companies too. It was weird since mine went up once I hit 26
