Question ScoobyMods.com

Just a question,

So when did Scoobymods.com begin charging for access to there website?? I just got on there website and you have to pay to look at any of the threads!! Kind of messed up in my opinion but I guess you have to pay for the bandwidth somehow.

Bummer

oh man...i even donated $$ to keep the site up. i guess that was a waste of money cuz i now have to pay to view the tutorials.

quote from scoobymods:
"OK, the changes have been made... and here they are...

You must be a registered paying member to view the contents of the Modifications forums, and all sub-forums. I'm sorry that it had to come to this, but in order to keep the site up, that's how has to be for now."

i should've used acrobat to dl entire threads so that i have a reference...

Looks like kastle is taking care of the people who donated in the past.

Another quote from scoobymods.com:
"What if I donated before, via the donations?
If you previously donated, you automagically get 1 year of membership, and all the benefits that comes with it. If for some reason your account doesn't reflect that, PM me and let me know. We will get it sorted out."

$12 for a year. I think i-club or nasioc should adopt them...paying for a user created site is not cool...it's a business model that just doesn't work.

If they are charging for the access then they should pay royalties to the writers of the mods. Maybe they should have some links to differant venders to help pay for the mods.

why should the people who run the site have to pay for everything? if you can't afford $12 for a 1 YEAR subscription you shouldn't be at the site in the first place, because you shouldn't be abe to afford the mods your hoping to install yourself.

get a grip people, it costs 3.3 cents a day, stop your crying

It's not the money. We can all spare $12 a year. It's the idea (that Russell hit on) behind charging for something that the community created! And by his posted cost numbers ($125/month), Kastle is going to be making some mad cash before the site goes under and gets rescued by nasioc/i-club anyway.

if its community created, the community should help pay/maintain for it.

its more than just paying for the site, its paying kastle for maintaining it and all the other stuff that doesn't have a set price that your helping him out with.

i totally agree with you. a good question to ask is, "what is your time and sanity worth to you?" if you're performing the install/mod yourself, $2-3 for a practical tutorial (with pics!) is worth it alone. this is assuming you do 5 mods/yr, which is very likely.

if not for some of the instructions on scoobymods, i doubt i would've finished my dynamat install in the time i did.
