Hmm, I guess if you think cutting up a heater house filter and making your own is a good idea? The adding of something that smells is a good idea!

^I did that. Got a 3M Filtrete air filter meant for a HEPA system.
Cut it out to fit in the cabin filter frame, swapped, done deal. While I was at it, I just went ahead and cut 3 more. So for $18, I made 4 filters.

Dude, a filter element is a filter element. It's not like we're talking about using heater ducting as an up-pipe.

And are stock ones HEPA? If not, that means your corner cutting yielded cheaper and BETTER filters than Subaru branded ones

You'll have to make one. If if works out, you can make more and sell them for $$$$!

Uhhhmmm if you're only replacing yours every 3-4 years, YOU are cutting corners. You ever looked at one of these after a few months of summer driving? Hella gross. I guess if you never, ever drive your car it's not a big deal. Yours was the 3500 mile STi that Fineline built, right. I rest my case.

i think it was only an accessory opiton for my02-my04 then in 05 it can factory installed. so anyone with an 04 and older probably does not have one.

After I put one of those in the car (ordered the one from AirCabinMan as well) it really cut down on the amount of dust inside the car. Definitely worth it to install one of these.

I know some people put some Febreze or other scented stuff on the filter as well when they are installing them.

Really good walkthrough here:

My car has is a 2004 with ~80K miles and the factory filter was disgusting
