The big lesson for everyone else here is

BUY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND KEEP IT IN YOUR CAR!

this sort of thing can happen to anybody, and with fuel and hot oil under the hood, a really minor fire can total your car in a matter of a minute or two.

But having a little extinguisher bolted under a seat can often make the difference between replacing a cracked fuel line or shorted wire vs. being forced into replacing your whole car!

they should sue Honda.. thats dangerous stuff. not only that.. WHY would they buy ANOTHER Honda after that happened? If that happened to me.. i'd never buy the same manufacturer car ever again.

Good thing he didn't have water in the car, it could have been an electrical fire........

He really needs the insurance company and/or honda to check it out and investigate the cause. It could have been something left underneath the car.... I left my house phone there once for like 5 miles. No reception though....

If there was a factory default, i'd be very appreciative if you posted that back here as I have a few friends with the same car.
