n/a mid pipe question
What's up all I have a question about my 2.5 rs. I have borla headers and a magnaflow axle back, and really would like to complete it with a mid pipe. If I have a muffler shop just put in a custom straight pipe.. will I still need a resonator? I have been looking at the borla and stromung mid pipes they look a little different. is that a resonator? If I get just straight pipe will it sound like ass? Thank you for your experienced help. PS I'm just looking for that deep crackle and pop. Thanks again

I don't know what the magnaflow sounds like but regardless if you have a catback on already it either has a resonator or not so I don't think the sound will change much. You have a muffler so catless on the cat pipe won't matter because you already have back pressure from the muffler.
Borla mid pipes do not have resonators. If you want one you can get a resonated mid pipe from Supers587. They are very good quality. In answer to the sound, I have no idea. Hopefully some one on here has had the set up. GL! |
Thanks man yya that makes sense with the back pressure, I'm banking on that to keep the rasp down

The type and size of resonator will effect if you get rasp, or not, and if your burbble changes or not.
In my experience, i find having no resonator works for not having rasp, but makes the output pretty loud when you are WOT. If you still have OE Cats, then i'd run without resonator. If you really end up feeling it's too loud, have the shop put one in. I use the "lowback" style muffler (Mike@GST was first to uses these about 6-7 years ago in subies). Look for something called Moroso SpiralFlow muffler. I have one in my midpipe. Works wonders... |
Well I had the local navato muffler guy do it.. 60 bucks for a midpipe.. I'm in! Sounds great wouldn't say any HP gain. Thanks guys for the help on making this decision. Downshifting is just that much better

You shouldn't be expecting HP gain from the midpipe. As long as you're happy with how it sounds, that's all that matters. |
