Ok im not in the bay area but i figured you guys would appreciate this more than anything and i want some people to know where their parts went to and how much of a great help their parts where!!!
I would like to thank: GST Motorsports - clutch and all the great advice(i filled their inbox probably:lol:) SubyTech - for all the help transplanting and support with my project A.V.E. - Fenders stirs - bumper SU_BURU - Trunk and most of all i would like to thank BruceLee!!! you just dont know it!!! :surprise: but there are so many more i would love to thank for all the advice! ok so this is the story! I owned a 2003 WRX WRB and loved the thing!!! this is it prior to December 20th, 2008 one day i was being really stupid with a group of friends(also subaru owners) and we were driving on a dirt road and got a little wild. needless to say i rolled it down a 50ft embankment and rolled it 2 1/2 times. came to rest on my driver side, shoulder broke the driver window and it was a mess... well my love for my subaru kicked into overdrive! instead of totalling it i made it my project! This caused a lot of drama and turmoil within my family. But none the less my love for my car and the subaru community was too great. -This is how it began, i bought a body completely stripped from the subaru recycling center in Rancho Cordova. It was in a front end accident! some guy in his black 06 TR ran it into a tree or something and decimated the front end. *It had the infamous Gunattics sticker on the rear window. -I tore the front end off and cut the front end off my 03 wrx and welded it onto the new body. straightened it all and got it near perfect -then came the fun part i stripped my 03 down to absolutely nothing. -Swapped the wiring harness -swapped the motor including new clutch -swapped all drivetrain all with the help of SubyTech... Thanks Jerry!!! -from a local member picked up a front bumper and a radiator support for an 05 STI. Got all that in place and bought all components for an 05 sti front end like fenders. at this point in time a co-worker of my fathers had a son that wrecked his 05 sti and wanted to get rid of it(moreso it was a reminder of pain for his family) so i went and picked up the wrecked car and parked it outback. tore that thing to pieces!!! got the brembos, intercooler, doors, interior, and a lot of other miscellaneous parts off of it and threw them on my car! : banana : -after this point all i needed was the pieces and bolts to hold the entire thing together (subarugenuineparts.com and sonora subaru) well finally on december 20th, 2009 exactly a year later i registered the car for road use and got insurance on it once more! December 20th, 2009: There are many more things that i have lying around just waiting for paint so that they can go on! if you guys want a list of the upcoming things im doing to the car i will make this thread an ongoing update into what i call Frankensubie!!! Since the build it has come out to look like this!!! If you wanna know more just ask!!! im happy to tell you all about it!!! Anybody else think of Johnny Cash "One Piece at a time" when reading this?
"Well, I left Kentucky back in '49 An' went to Detroit workin' on a 'sembly line The first year they had me puttin' wheels on cadillacs Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry 'Cause I always wanted me one that was long and black. One day I devised myself a plan That should be the envy of most any man I'd sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my hand Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired I'd have me a car worth at least a hundred grand. {Chorus} I'd get it one piece at a time And it wouldn't cost me a dime You'll know it's me when I come through your town I'm gonna ride around in style I'm gonna drive everybody wild 'Cause I'll have the only one there is a round. So the very next day when I punched in With my big lunchbox and with help from my friends I left that day with a lunch box full of gears Now, I never considered myself a thief GM wouldn't miss just one little piece Especially if I strung it out over several years. The first day I got me a fuel pump And the next day I got me an engine and a trunk Then I got me a transmission and all of the chrome The little things I could get in my big lunchbox Like nuts, an' bolts, and all four shocks But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's mobile home. Now, up to now my plan went all right 'Til we tried to put it all together one night And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong. The transmission was a '53 And the motor turned out to be a '73 And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone." So we drilled it out so that it would fit And with a little bit of help with an A-daptor kit We had that engine runnin' just like a song Now the headlight' was another sight We had two on the left and one on the right But when we pulled out the switch all three of 'em come on. The back end looked kinda funny too But we put it together and when we got thru Well, that's when we noticed that we only had one tail-fin About that time my wife walked out And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts But she opened the door and said "Honey, take me for a spin." So we drove up town just to get the tags And I headed her right on down main drag I could hear everybody laughin' for blocks around But up there at the court house they didn't laugh 'Cause to type it up it took the whole staff And when they got through the title weighed sixty pounds." |
^not completely!!! hahahaha cause mine all fit together!!!
|
where did you cut and weld?
|
where did you cut and weld?
had to cut the bumper beams and sleeve and weld my 03 bumper supports on just before the transmission crossmember towards the front of the car it was a biotch!!! |
Harlequin, Mike. It was a MK3.

|
woo hoo got 15MM spacers for my rears with extended lugs! looks so much better!
|
ok haven't had an update in a while. but so far i haven't done much. i got me stereo back in and i got my sub and amp with a custom made sub box by me! also i painted my grille badge with a pink background and installed my front coilovers. car sits great now and will hopefully soon be in the process of paint!
will post pics later! |
^ You're welcome.
Need pics of pink badge and spacers MEOW. |
I didnt mention this before, but I want you to know that Im really proud and was VERY surprised at the fact that you kept her alive. I have a video of what the car looked like right after the accident, and here it is: (check it out to see how bad it was... frontal/offset tree impact at 40mph)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL3RWoCuxN4 |
hey bud ya i saw that video a while back... i wanted to bring the car to BAM but it just wasn't running at the time :( so next time i can ill let you see your deceased and now born again baby!!!
but thanks i appreciate the good word greatly! |
in the making at the moment im looking into making my own front lip... i love the look of the APR front wind splitter but with it being carbon fiber its just not strong enough for the mountain driving. So in the making im working on a custom made skidplate/wind splitter. 1/4 inch aluminum plating for the front undercarriage of my car with apr like supportng rods!
|
Bring it to BAM 10!!! :) (not sure on that date yet)
|
i plan on it!! by then i hope to have it painted the suspension done and the exterior done... but we all know with subarus that they are never DONE!
|
Update: the car is in the process of being painted!!! 05 sti Java Black Pearl!!! its going to look sick!

been a long time since i gave an update on the car so i figured i might as well post up saying wht i have done lately! The car has been back together nearly a year and a half now and i must say the car has come a long way since the reinvention of Frank.
so since then the car has been painted, i got BC BR coilovers, put an 06 sti roof vane, new greddy Ti-C exhaust, put on my 03 wrx sideskirts with the aeroguards, and some other misc things. |
Great job. Most people are scared to change their own oil. Props.
|
The car looks fantastic (The pink stuff is not my thing, but to each their own). Very impressive work.
|
looks great
|
Awesome.. There is nothing quite like rolling around in a car that you built yourself.
|
Harlequin, Mike. It was a MK3.
The shell is Daniel's old TR, that's awesome - glad to see it's staying in the family.
one of the customers at work has one of these  |
This is crazy! Props and respect
|
Crazy hard work right there. Mad respect brah and if you dont mind divulging the cost altogether parts wise, I'll love to know what you spent.
|
overall i think it was about 3k
|
Awesome.. There is nothing quite like rolling around in a car that you built yourself.
that is so true!!! |
overall i think it was about 3k
damn thats a ****ing deal. mines salvaged too but the back really pisses me off because its uneven. I might have to do what you did and find one with a missing front end so I can take the rear quarters/bumper |
That's very impressive, especially with all the work you did and what little you spent. The car looks good :thumb:
|
thank u!
|
sickness, nice job
|
just wondering.. did you take the drivetrain out from the sti??
|
wish i could have but it was toast!!!
|
damn, that would've been awesome if it weren't toast
but that's a stellar job getting everything back together |
thanks... ya i was super upset that i couldnt use that or even the block! but oh well there isnt much i can do!
|
Damn....looks freakin perfect
|
thanks man but there are so many flaws!!!
|
Your car is so Fresh buddy!!
|
yeah but it will be even more fresh riding around with new shoes!!!
|
Trevor you really need to ditch the pink bro, lol. Car looks good though man.
|
Trevor you really need to ditch the pink bro, lol. Car looks good though man.
 Great job. Pretty amazing you were able to find all of the pieces you needed that easily. I guess living in the mainland has its perks, if a car gets wrecked here (Hawaii) EVERYONE with a subaru knows about it almost instantly waiting to buy parts. Vultures I tell you! |
Trevor you really need to ditch the pink bro, lol. Car looks good though man.
nah man im not ditching the pink for a while! man you should see the girls all gawcking over the car no matter where i go lol!!! |
I guess living in the mainland has its perks, if a car gets wrecked here (Hawaii) EVERYONE with a subaru knows about it almost instantly waiting to buy parts. Vultures I tell you!
ahahaha that sucks...but sharing is caring :A: |
I for one like the pink. Cherry Blossom Red is a manly color, and as stated all the girls like it.
Looking good and a lot of hard work put in to keeping it alive. I wish I could have fixed my old RS myself. The chassis is still sitting in my garage. |
its only been over 3 months! lots has happened to the car since!
updated op with new pictures and info as to where the car sits now post following will update on what has happened to the car |

The rain gutters the rear fender flares these were scary since i drilled into the body! And then i converted the center console from an 02-04 to and 05-07 wrx before: After: and i got a new lip for the car!!! |

Love the picture of you "puttin out the vibe" as Lloyd Christmas would say. I love puttin out the vibe next to my car or at the bar.
|
lol thanks!
|
Cool story Trevor! Thanks for sharing your <3 for subaru!!! STI is the best man :D
|
in your "lloyd christmas" picture, i super jealous of your shoe color. i have the same shoes different color but i always wanted that color scheme
and yea i guess the car is dope as can be also |
Holy ****! My wife and I are in awe! Good work, so proud! :D She's all grow'd up
|
How was doin the center console swap?
|
hardcore.
|
I remember seeing this car at quickly in 2010 when it was multiple colors.. Very nicely done and good job!!
|
looks mean as hell! even with the pink!
|
Cool story Trevor! Thanks for sharing your <3 for subaru!!! STI is the best man :D
thanks i take pride in everything that has happened to the car!!! minus driving it off the cliff.... :-P
in your "lloyd christmas" picture, i super jealous of your shoe color. i have the same shoes different color but i always wanted that color scheme and yea i guess the car is dope as can be also
yeah i love these shoes... they are discontinued and very difficult to find now!!! even if you do find them they are used or in some guys collection!
Holy ****! My wife and I are in awe! Good work, so proud! :D She's all grow'd up
lol thanks!!! i almost wanted to leave that overly large GUNATICS decal on the back window... but i need as little cop attention as possible!!!
How was doin the center console swap?
it wasn't too bad... in my mind it was going to be easier than it really was but it still didnt cause me too much trouble... are you thinking about doing it? if so hit me up and i can get you a parts list of the things you will need... there are hidden things that you dont think will be an issue but come up during the swap!
hardcore.
Thanks man!!!
I remember seeing this car at quickly in 2010 when it was multiple colors.. Very nicely done and good job!!
Quickly? what is quickly?
looks mean as hell! even with the pink!
yeah well unfortunately all the pink was a little much as far as cop attention! it made the car stand out above all the rest but the cops noticed it to! i had a cop even say once Officer: you know why i pulled you over? Me: no officer Officer: Your exhaust is too loud! and quite frankly you stood out! :faint: what a D**K |
ya man shoot me a txt or a PM with the stuff. Not sure if ill ever end up doin it or when, but i would like to haha
|

alright but ill post it on here that way anyone who may not have known what parts are needed and are interested in doing it can!
06-center console swap: #1-12 #13 Quantity 2 #14 #17-22 #23 if you want the sti trim around the shifter boot #24 #10 #13 #14 #20 and lastly something that i cannot seem to find anywhere... you need to have a 2005-2007 radio bracket! the problems i ran into were... -the stereo bracket -the bracket to the center console... #14 second set! it is different for 05-07 -and i had an 05 sti centerconsole... so the hvac issue... i had #13 set 2 and it was out of an sti well since the STI auto HVAC just clips in and the manual HVAC screws in there are clips that go in and allow you to screw the Manual HVAC into those clips! other than that it was just takin it all apart! that was the hardest part. |
Damn lol
|
Yeah it took a lot but whatever... it was so worth the look of my car! And u can getthe parts for cheap at a wrecking yard or people parting out!!!
|
Great job...really immpressive!
|
Milpetas square used to be the Friday night huge car meet.. We were there after a close friend of ours passed away and you happened to be there that night. We were wondering who owned the "Lego car" and you walked up with your friends and told us about it and that's when we figured out it was brueclee's old shell.
