Few years ago when they discovered a few other planets out there. They decided to drop Pluto rather than add the new ones. They also made the rationalization the since those planets are really just giant chunks of ice, the aren't really planets.

Astronomers have voted to strip Pluto of its status as a planet. The researchers said Pluto failed to dominate its orbit around the Sun in the same way as the other planets.
