You are funny. Try Tracy, Antioch or Stockton. No, I am not kidding. I know people that make that commute with $130k+ salaries because even that pay cannot sustain ~$3,500 median Bay Area monthly rents. Everyone else makes makes serious sacrifices; typically not enough savings, paycheck-to-paycheck budgeting, living with multiple roommates, no vacations/entertainment, etc. Anyone that tells you differently is either (1) Trust/parental-funded hipster (2) Tech sector prodigy (3) Full of sh*t.

Literally spent an hour and a Hal to 2 hours each way per day in traffic... My life was miserable during those times. Couldn't spend time in after school sports cuz if we didn't leave early enough we wouldn't get home until like 8 or 9 pm.

SF residents on average spend 61% of their income on rent or mortgage
