i have to choose wisely when it comes to spending $$ on events. Im not about being competitive with my car, its just for fun, hence why it goes to track days and not autoX.

its called the cyclone. and i thought it was safer/ more fun than the bypass. the people i saw braking at the peak of the bypass=not the best idea. it was interesting running the bypass though, gave me butterflies for sure.

on the cyclone youre supposed to brake hard after a downshift to second and mob down the the hill, gradually cutting into the apex. but braking on the peak of the bypass is a no-no

ive always known it as the cyclone. ive just heard the crows nest reffering to the flagging/lookout tower at the top of the hill. not that it really matters...
"Turn 5, a.k.a. the Cyclone, is where you learn to trust your corner workers. It is reminiscent of the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca, but is faster and blinder. The Cyclone consists of a sharp left-hand turn at the top of a ridge followed by a right-hand off-camber sweeper. Brake in a straight line coming up the hill, downshift to second, and turn in early, perhaps sooner than feels right. Begin to straighten and sqeeze the throttle as you crest. If you have aimed correctly, you will be against the burm on drivers right on the way down. This is a good place to grab third. Modulate the throttle through the right-hand sweeper, drift out, but bring the car back to driver's right to set up for the left hand turn 6." -from one of a thunderhill mag

The cyclone claimed a friend's MR2 engine when he bounced off the berm, grabbed 1st instead of 3rd w/ one wheel off the ground and then uhh.... landed. It made a crazy noise and I think we still have a couple piston chunks and valves sitting around that look like raisins. Good times. I've seen people get nearly airborne there. The bypass is a lot like "turn 3 returns" IMHO. Either one is great with me, I love that track. Wish I could get back on it. Still no cars ready though I heard there is one group that will let you run convertibles w/out bars.
