Impreza the new Camry?
YES. Here:
Yep, though - the ability to turn it to FWD is pretty fun when you learn how to use it. Mostly because it's scrappy with 2WD, but at that power level, the traction of 4WD/AWD is actually annoying, unless you are offroad, hence the ability to turn it on/off. Back when I had my RHD '68 Mini, my friend and I would take turns trying to catch each other through SF, and the Justy always wins (always).
I have had two Justy's - this one and this one. I still have the '91 4x4. The '93 was more fun and easier to drive fast, but the '91 GL is nicer.
Thing is, every Justy out there with an ECVT is probably sitting in a field rotting with a blown ECVT. The 4WD ones have a RWD diff in back a lot like what came stock in a Datsun 510. If you didn't live in CA or had your own property to run it on, how awesome would it be to stick "any light weight RWD 4cyl 5spd powertrain" in there and have a blast! Think Toyota 4AGE and a 5spd, custom engine mounts and you would have a redonkulous tiny RWD hatchback.
Anyway, total digression..

Oh yeah... I see some snow video in my future.
Hell... go old school with it and make it 2wd/4wd switchable!

The Justy has been around... as a Toyota/Daihatsu badge-engineered car. The Toyota Passo and Daihatsu Boon.
A Justy actually manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries is no more. I don't expect it to be either, sadly...
What I truly want from Subaru is a subcompact like the Justy with Subaru's signature proprietary technology such as the ring-shaped reinforcement frame, boxer engine, symmetrical AWD, etc, but that will never, ever happen from FHI themselves.
As for the the Impreza being the new Camry...
Camry = midsize
Legacy = midsize
Impreza = compact
Corolla = compact
The title should be changed to "Impreza the new Corolla?". However, I doubt Toyota would bother to make another AWD Corolla, let alone a boxer-engine. I think the new-generation hatred is a bit excessive these days...

I'm glad they're doing it. It's a technology that needs to be taken advantage of. California doesn't like it because naive hippies hate diesels and smart hippies make biodiesel conversions. Hard for CA to make money off those.
I hope VW makes some headway. That'll get some of these other companies to bring over some great technology available in other countries. And if it brings down fuel costs it'll bring down food costs nation wide.
