Immobilizer Key Programing for my 2011 WRX *Places to go?*

My used 2011 Wrx only came with 1 key, I ended up buying another key on ebay, had it laser cut, and now im missing the programing. I've been to my local dealerships (Serramonte, Carlsen, and Putnam), all wanted a 2 hour period appointment and was charging $80 to JUST PROGRAM!... wtf!!

iM UNSURE HOW DIFFERENT HONDAS ARE BUT LAST I WENT TO GRACE HONDA, THEY PROGRAMED THE KEY FOR FREE, AND IT LITERALLY TOOK THEM 1 MINUTE.

DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET IT DONE CHEAPER AND MORE EFFECTIVELY?

Stevens Creek quoted me a grip too. I laughed. I believe the procedure to do it yourself is on this thing called "the internet".

It only takes less than 15 min to program those keys. Reason why to go to a dealership is they need to get the key code that matches the vehicles VIN then they connect the subaru computer and program the key

you cant program your own immobilizer unless you go to a dealership or a lock smith. There is a reason why you are not allowed you program these your self. IF you could then there is really no point in even having immobilizers since your car can still be stolen if someone was able to cut and program the key themselves.

Maybe you could shed light on the 2hrs they are quoting to do it though? I thought we were just talking about pairing a fob to the car, but I guess not or the new cars are different?

The labor is only $80 so I'd say the 2 hour period is you being there for 2 hours to get the job done, not necessarily labor time.

OP, the dealership is the way to do it, only way to do it when my ECU bricked 3 years ago on my Legacy.

Their flat rate is $80. The estimate time i need to drop off my car is 2 hours... Im sure the whole process does not take more than 5-10 minutes, assuming they have the necessary devices to program the transponder... Anyways.. i guess im heading to the stealership... still hoping someone will shed some light towards a locksmith who can program this PITA key.. lol

I am still looking... Serramonte subaru wants to try for $80. And that's no guarantee it will work... If it does not work they say tough luck.. They won't even use any of the amount they charge if it doesn't work towards a new key... So in other words they can pull my car in the service, leave it there for god knows how long and return the car unserviced claiming it does not work and ill be out $80 for nothing.. So much for customer satisfaction..!!

Sounds like you shouldn't have bought an ebay key.....

Just go in and get it done.

I paid $70 with tax at Stevens Creek Subaru to get 2 keys programmed. Took them about an hour. Capitol Subaru quoted me $150. What a rip off.
